In this week’s Mets Weekly Report, I talked to Kerel Cooper of On The Black about Carlos Beltran and his future with the Mets. We talk about how well he’s been playing so far in 2011 and make some predictions about his stats for the rest of the season.

Kerel caught me with some tough over/under questions about Beltran. Check out the video to see my predictions and whether Beltran will be with the Mets after the non-waiver trade deadline.

Check out the video below and be sure to catch our live streaming Mets fan show every Sunday night at 7pm at Ustream.

The Mets went west and won the first game of the four game series in LA tonight. They did it behind another solid effort by Chris Capuano who went 6 innings and allowed only 2 runs. Bobby Parnell and K-Rod closed it out with 3 scoreless innings of relief.

The Mets continued to single and double teams to death with 8 hits and 1 walk in the game. The big inning for the Mets was the sixth when they got run scoring doubles from Angel Pagan, Carlos Beltran, and Daniel Murphy. Pagan was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, and 1 RBI.

The Mets and Dodgers will do it again tomorrow night at 10pm.

Preview: Mets at Dodgers July 4, 2011

New York Mets (42-42) at Los Angeles Dodgers (37-48) 9:10pm

Chris Capuano (7-7 4.27) vs. Rubby De La Rosa (4-7 3.77)

TV: SNY             Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets start a four game series in LA tonight against the last place Dodgers who have lost three straight series’. Capuano has won four of his last five starts despite not pitching that well in Detroit in his last start. He gave up 5 runs in 5 innings but benefited from the Mets scoring 16 runs behind him.

De La Rosa is a rookie right-hander who only has five career starts this season with the Dodgers. He’s lost his last three starts although he pitched well in Minnesota going 7 innings and allowing 1 run in his last start. He ended up losing a 1-0 game to the Twins and Scott Baker.

Mets 3 – Yankees 2 July 3, 2011

The Mets won in dramatic comeback fashion tying the game off Mariano Rivera in the ninth and winning it in the tenth. They avoided a home sweep by the Yankees and head to Los Angeles with some good feelings. R.A. Dickey pitched really well going 5 innings and allowing only 1 run. But he had to leave the game with glute tightness, so we’ll have to see if that affects his next start. Dickey has shown he can work through injuries before so, hopefully, it isn’t anything serious.

The Mets had 9 hits and 4 walks in the game led by Daniel Murphy going 3 for 5 with 1 RBI. Jason Bay had the big hit in the 10th inning to win it. But the Mets have Ramiro Pena to thank for the win with errors at shortstop in the ninth and tenth innings to allow the Mets to tie and win the game.

The Mets are off to LA for a four game series before heading to San Francisco.

Preview: Yankees at Mets July 3, 2011

New York Yankees (50-31) at New York Mets (41-42) 1:10pm

Freddy Garcia (7-6 3.28) vs. R.A. Dickey (4-7 3.77)

TV: TBS             Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are trying to avoid the home sweep today if the weather allows. Its’ supposed to be raining pretty heavily on and off today. If you’re home watching today, don’t forget that the game is on TBS for some reason.

Garcia has been pitching incredibly well for the Yanks lately. He hasn’t gone less than 6 innings in a start since June 7th. He’s won three of his last four starts and hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in a game during that span.

Everyone on the Mets will need to pick it up today without Jose Reyes in the lineup. Angel Pagan will be hitting leadoff and Ruben Tejada will be at shortstop. Dickey’s last two starts against Detroit and Oakland were both solid. He pitched 15 innings and allowed 4 runs in those starts.

Audio: Jose Reyes on Hamstring Injury

Here’s a link to some audio from Jose Reyes talking to reporters about the hamstring injury he suffered during yesterday’s game against the Yankees. He hurt it running to first base in the first inning. Reyes stayed in the game for an inning before being replaced by Ruben Tejada.

Reyes tells reporters that the hamstring doesn’t feel too bad but he didn’t want it to “blow up” so he came out of the game. He may have chosen some odd words when he said that but, hopefully, it isn’t that serious.

There are so many implications that this injury can have on the Mets and Reyes from his impending free agency to the Mets plans at the trading deadline later this month. Reyes will be in for an MRI today, so we’ll know more soon about the severity of the injury and the direction that this could take the Mets and Reyes.

Join us at 7pm tonight for “Sunday Night Mets” as Kerel Cooper of On The Black and I talk to you and other Mets fans about the Jose Reyes injury.
