Preview: Yankees at Mets May 22, 2010

New York Yankees (26-15) at (New York Mets (20-23)   7:10 pm

Phil Hughes (5-0 2.25) vs Mike Pelfrey (5-1 3.02)

TV: Fox   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Tonight’s Fox game should be a good pitching match up of a couple of the best young pitchers in baseball this season. Hughes has been great and the Yankees have won six of the seven games he started this season. Pelfrey has also been great and pitched extremely well in his last start in Atlanta going 7.2 innings and only giving up 2 runs. It should be a good one tonight.

Javier Vazquez (2-4 8.01) vs Hisanori Takahashi (3-1 3.12)

TV: SNY, YES   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Yankees are playing well this season but just got swept in a two game series by the Rays. Vazquez hasn’t pitched very well at all this year after he was nearly untouchable last season with the Braves. Takahashi is making his first career start coming out of the bullpen.

Preview: Mets at Nationals May 20, 2010

John Maine (1-3 6.13) vs Luis Atilano (3-0 3.90)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid the short series sweep tonight behind Maine. He got destroyed in his last start in Florida and is 0-2 with a 8.53 ERA in road games this season. Atilano got a win against the Mets on May 10 throwing 5.1 shutout innings.

Preview: Mets at Nationals May 19, 2010

New York Mets (19-21) at Washington Nationals (20-20)  7:05 pm

R.A. Dickey (0-0 -.–) vs Livan Hernandez (4-2 1.46)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Dickey makes his big league season debut after pitching really well at Buffalo. He was 4-2 with a 2.23 ERA including 2 complete games and a 1.04 WHIP. You can’t do much better than that. Hernandez is pitching better than we’ve seen from him in years. He beat the Mets on April 11 throwing 7 shutout innings.

Preview: Mets at Braves May 18, 2010

New York Mets (19-20) at Atlanta Braves (18-20)  7:10 pm

Johan Santana (3-2 3.88) vs Kris Medlen (1-1 2.35)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the sweep behind Santana whose last start was excellent in a 2-1 loss in Florida. He went 7 IP and gave up 1 unearned run. Medlen has been pitching out of the bullpen mostly, only making one start this year. But he’s been pitching really well. I wouldn’t expect him to last long though. The Mets should get into the Braves bullpen pretty quickly.

What to watch: The Mets go into Turner Field at 1-8 on the road in May and 4-12 this season, the worst in the National League. The Mets swept the Braves at Citi Field at the end of April. This is the first time the Mets will face Lowe this season. The Braves won their last two series against the Brewers and D-Backs.
