Washington Nationals (1-2) at New York Mets (1-2) 7:10 pm

Garrett Mock (0-0 -.–) vs. Mike Pelfrey (0-0 -.–)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The word is that Pelfrey wasn’t happy about being demoted to the fourth starter. Here’s his chance to prove that he’s better than that. The Mets need to take this home series from the Nationals after losing a series to the Marlins. After this series, the Mets leave for Colorado and St. Louis, so they need to make some noise against the Nationals at home.

Florida Marlins (1-1) at New York Mets (1-1) 7:10 pm

Nate Robertson (0-0 -.–) vs. Jon Niese (0-0 -.–)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Niese makes his first start of the year, and first time making it onto the opening day roster. Hopefully, he can keep the butterflies to a minimum and get some outs. I’d like to see Angel Pagan get a start for the first time this year as well. It’s the rubber game of the series that the Mets need to take. The key to the season is just winning series’.

Florida Marlins (0-1) at New York Mets (1-0) 7:10 pm

Ricky Nolasco (0-0 -.–) vs. John Maine (0-0 -.–)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets look to continue the great performance they had on Monday against the Marlins with another win. Maine needs to come out throwing bullets in this one to try to redeem himself for the last two seasons of underachieving that he’s had.

Florida Marlins (0-0) at New York Mets (0-0) 1:10 pm

Josh Johnson (0-0 0.00) vs. Johan Santana (0-0 0.00)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to get out to the fast start that Jerry Manuel talked about all spring against the Marlins. It won’t be easy against Josh Johnson and the team that likes to be a spoiler for the Mets. The Marlins would love to put a damper on opening day at Citi Field.

Nelson Figueroa (1-3 5.40) vs. Carlos Zambrano (7-3 3.80)

TV: WPIX

What to watch: The Mets are trying to avoid the sweep today before they have a road off-day and then head to Colorado. Figueroa is making his fourth start of the season and pitched well in his last start at Florida. He went 5 innings only giving up 1 earned run in a 2-1 loss. Zambrano got bombed for 8 runs in 4.1 innings in his last start against the Nationals. But prior to that, the Cubs had won five straight games that he started.

Bobby Parnell (3-6 5.08) vs. Ryan Dempster (7-7 4.07)

TV: FOX

What to watch: The Cubs are 2-4 in the last 6 games that Dempster started. Dempster certainly isn’t living up to the 4-year/$52 million contract he signed before this season. His career year last season at 17-6 with a 2.96 ERA is proving to be an aberration. The “Parnell Experiment” has really hit the wall. In his last two starts he’s given up 14 earned runs in 8 innings. If the wind is blowing out at Wrigley today this could be a very long game.

Pat Misch (0-1 4.09) vs. Ted Lilly (9-8 3.40)

TV: SNY

What to watch: The Mets are in Chicago for a 3-game weekend series. The Cubs have lost five of their last seven games and so have the Mets. Lilly is 2-4 since June 14 and has given up 9 earned runs in his last 14 innings. This is Misch’s first start as a Met, he did start 7 games for the Giants last year. The Mets have lost 12 of the 15 games that Misch appeared in this season.
