The Cubs took the series with a win today in Chicago as the Mets head home to face the Phillies this weekend. The story of this game is that R.A. Dickey was injured in the third inning running over to cover first base. He collapsed and was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury.

Pedro Beato and Pat Misch followed Dickey and both got smoked by the Cubs for a combined 7 runs in 2.1 innings and the game was over.

On offense, Daniel Murphy finally heated up on a chilly day going 3 for 4 and raising his season average to .261.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsIt’s really become sad to watch the Mets season dissipate like this. Pat Misch got rocked by the Braves tonight to the tune of 5 runs in 3 innings. The big blow was a 3-run homer by Jason Heyward in the second inning.

Oliver Perez made a rare appearance in a game tonight and Brian McCann deposited his second pitch in the right field seats.

As usual, the Mets had very little offense with 9 hits and 6 walks. They left 12 runners on base and only Jeff Francoeur (2 for 5) had more than one hit in the game.

The Mets drop the opener of the series as the season winds down.

New York Mets (65-65)  at Atlanta Braves (75-55) 7:10 pm

Pat Misch (0-3 3.50) vs Jair Jurrjens (5-4 4.36)

TV: ESPN  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Braves are coming off winning a series over the Marlins at home. Jurrjens got hit really hard by the Rockies in his last start giving up 7 runs in 5.1 innings. Misch is making his fourth start of the year and the Mets have lost all three games he started. Although Misch didn’t pitch poorly, the Mets have only scored 6 runs over the three games Misch started.

Marlins 5 – Mets 4 August 25, 2010

July 30, 2010 - Flushing, New York, United States of America - 30 July 2010: New York Mets infielder David Wright.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets lost a close one tonight that Leo Nunez almost blew for the Marlins in the ninth. It started though with Pat Misch being pretty shaky right off the bat. He went 6 innings but gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits. He had several jams that he got out of though including bases loaded in the first and only allowing 1 run in that frame.

Ryota Igarashi took over for Misch in the seventh and didn’t look good again. He gave up a run on 2 hits. It’s funny with him. I really like his stuff and could see how a scout would like him. But he can’t translate good stuff into getting outs.

The Mets reverted back to having no offense again. Although young Alex Sanabia looked really good for the Marlins. The biggest hit was David Wright’s solo shot to straight away center leading off the ninth. That got the Mets within one run. Jeff Francouer and Josh Thole singled to follow Wright. But Mike Hessman and Jose Reyes couldn’t manage to bring them around.

The Mets and the Marlins will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow.

Florida Marlins (62-62) at New York Mets (63-62)  1:35 pm

Alex Sanabia (2-1 3.77) vs Pat Misch (0-2 3.00)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets look to capitalize on last night’s win in the bottom of the ninth and keep the momentum going. Misch pitched okay in his last start in Houston giving up 3 runs in 6 innings. The Marlins are a better offensive team than the Astros though. This will be Sanabia’s sixth career start. He pitched really well in his last start against the Pirates going 7.2 innings and allowing only 1 run.

Preview: Mets at Astros August 19, 2010

New York Mets (60-60) at Houston Astros (52-67) 8:05 pm

Pat Misch (0-1 1.50) vs Bud Norris (5-7 5.42)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: A win tonight would be huge for the Mets. Taking three out of four games in an NL road series is almost unthinkable. Misch pitched well in his first start against the Phillies but took a hard luck loss. Norris is in his second season with the Astros and has had some up’s and down’s this year. But the Astros have won the last four games he started. That’s saying something for one of the league’s worst teams.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets were victimized by a great game by Roy Halladay and their own poor fielding. Halladay went 8 strong innings only giving up 4 hits. Pat Misch was decent giving up 4 runs over 6 innings but only 1 run was earned. The Mets had 3 errors from Misch, David Wright, and Ruben Tejada. It was ugly in the field and that led to 3 runs for the Phillies.

The Mets had nothing going on offense really against Halladay. Jose Reyes did have a triple with no outs but the Mets couldn’t bring him in. And they did manage to load the bases against Ryan Madson in the ninth with two outs but Josh Thole struck out to end it.

Francisco Rodriguez did make it into the game in the ninth. There was a lot of booing but it was a good idea to get that first appearance after his arrest out of the way, even if it wasn’t a save situation.

The Mets and Phils will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow night on ESPN.
