D-Backs 4 – Mets 3 July 21, 2010

June 11, 2010: Jason Bay in action during the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 loss versus the New York Mets at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe D-Backs finish off the sweep of the Mets in 14 innings. It was too late and I was too upset to write about it last night. I still am…

Oliver Perez made his return to the game from the disabled list. He registered 1.1 IP and didn’t allow a run. Although he did give up 1 hit and 2 walks. Typical.

Jerry Manuel held a short team meeting before the game. A lot of good that did. The Mets are now 1-6 on this road trip and really should be 0-7 if it wasn’t for a blown call by Phil Cuzzi. I’m completely disgusted.

Mets 4 – Giants 3 July 18, 2010

July 18, 2010 - San Francisco, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES - epa02252957 New York Mets Ike Davis follows through with an RBI double off a pitch by San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Chris Ray during the eighth inning at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California, USA 18 July 2010.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets avoided the sweep in San Francisco with an extra innings win that was marked by some of the worst umpiring work I’ve seen in a long time. Johan Santana was outstanding for his fourth consecutive start going 8 innings and only allowing 1 run. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a win for the great work that he did.

Francisco Rodriguez blew the save in the ninth with a 3-1 lead allowing the Giants to score 2 runs. The Giants were the victims of a blown call at home plate by Phil Cuzzi. Travis Ishikawa was called out on a play at home that would have scored the winning run. He was clearly safe. You didn’t even need a replay to see that. That was just the start of some horrible umpiring in the ninth inning.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 2 walks in the game. The hero of the game was Ike Davis going 3 for 5 with a long double off the brick wall in right field in the tenth inning to score Jason Bay and win the game. Bay was also 3 for 5 in the game.

The Mets get lucky to escape San Francisco with a win and head to Arizona.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets were out of this game in the second inning. You could have just turned off the TV at that point. Hisanori Takahashi was awful again giving up 6 runs in 2.2 innings. His ERA is up to 4.69 now and he just can’t stay in the rotation anymore. The Mets need to find another solution whether it’s Pat Misch or someone else.

The Mets offense had 7 hits and 2 walks. They didn’t score a run until the seventh and it was starting to look like they might get shut out for a third straight game. Ike Davis turned it on going 2 for 4 with 2 home runs including his first one into McCovey Bay. Carlos Beltran was also 2 for 4 with a single and a triple. It was nice to see him leg out a triple on his bad knee but he still looks slow in the outfield.

The Mets will try to avoid a four game sweep tomorrow afternoon behind Johan Santana.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsI’m sorry the recap is a little late today. I was at the game and traffic on the Whitestone was terrible on the way home. Construction!!! It was a great day to be at the game with David Daniels and Kerel Cooper.

Johan Santana was in complete shut down mode for the second straight start. He went 7 strong innings giving up 5 hits and 3 walks but no runs. Bobby Parnell and Francisco Rodriguez cleaned up the eighth and ninth without allowing a baserunner. The Mets pitching completely dominated the Braves today.

The Mets offense was working today too. They had 13 hits and 3 walks. As usual, Angel Pagan was doing the heavy lifting going 3 for 5 with 1 run. Ike Davis was 2 for 3 with a monster home run to center in the sixth off Derek Lowe. It was long and to the left of the apple and I heard on the radio it went 440 feet.

The Mets manage to avoid the sweep before the All-Star break.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe bad news for the Mets is that Mike Pelfrey didn’t have it again this afternoon. He made it into the fifth inning, when the Braves scored all 4 runs, but he didn’t get an out in that inning. He had runners on frequently giving up 12 hits and 3 walks.

Hisanori Takahashi put in a nice effort in relief throwing 3 scoreless innings. I really think that long relief is going to be the highest and best use of his skills.

The Mets only put together 4 hits and 3 walks in the game. And Angel Pagan had 3 of those hits and 2 stolen bases. He just makes plays game after game. There’s no way they can sit him down when Carlos Beltran comes back.

The Mets lost the second straight home series today. They’ll try to avoid the sweep behind Johan Santana tomorrow afternoon.

May 25, 2010 - New York, United States - epa02173153 New York Met Pitcher R.A. Dickey pitches in the fourth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies, in Flushing New York, USA, 25 May 2010.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets dropped the first of the three game series to the Braves. R.A. Dickey was solid going 6.2 innings and giving up 4 runs (3 earned). The Braves scored in the top of the first on a Jose Reyes error. Dickey held the game tight until the seventh inning when he gave up back to back homers to Melky Cabrera and Omar Infante. That’s where the Mets lost the game.

The Mets offense had 8 hits and 2 walks. Angel Pagan was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. The offensive star of the game was Dickey who went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.

The Mets fall to 4 games behind the Braves with the loss tonight but have Mike Pelfrey and Johan Santana coming up this weekend.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets lost the game and the series tonight despite another solid performance by Jon Niese. The problem was that Bronson Arroyo was better. Niese went 7.2 IP giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk. He also had 8 strikeouts but did give up 2 home runs.

The Mets offense did put together 8 hits and 1 walk but just couldn’t make it translate into runs. Once again, Angel Pagan had a big game with the bat. He was 2 for 4 with a solo homer in the first off Arroyo and that was all of the Mets scoring. Josh Thole was 2 for 3 also.

The Mets lose two out of three to the Reds and, unfortunately, the Braves won again tonight over the Phillies.
