The Mets took a tough loss in the bottom of the ninth in this one. What’s worse, is that it was a well pitched game by Mike Pelfrey and Randy Wolf through the first 6 innings. The Mets were down 2-1 after the sixth on a Prince Fielder home run. The Mets scored 5 runs in the seventh off Kameron Lowe on a rally that Jose Reyes (who else?) started.

The Mets bullpen couldn’t hold the lead with Pedro Beato, Jason Isringhausen, and Dale Thayer gave up 5 runs in the final two innings to blow the lead and lose the game.

The Mets offense was solid and the seventh inning explosion was teed up by Reyes but Ronny Paulino hit a 3-run homer. He was 4 for 4 on the night with 3 RBI’s. Big night for Paulino.

The Mets and Brewers will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow night.

Chris Capuano was victorious in his return to Milwaukee tonight. He did a great job again and, this time, got just enough run support to get a win. He went 6 innings allowing only a Prince Fielder solo shot to center field. The bullpen cleaned up with three perfect innings. Pedro Beato, Jason Isringhausen, and K-Rod didn’t allow a batter to reach base after taking over for Capuano. It was exactly how the Mets would have drawn it up.

The Mets didn’t do a lot on offense. They only had 5 hits and 5 walks in the game. But Jose Reyes came through with a 2-run triple in the seventh inning. He may have scored on an infield play but got thrown out at the plate and didn’t slide.

It’s a good start to the three game series in Milwaukee against a hot Brewers team.

R.A. Dickey had another tremendous game going 8 innings allowing 1 run. Even on a bad foot he was dealing. He only allowed 4 hits and 1 walk. The bullpen tried to give it back in the ninth but the Mets held on for the win and take the series from the Braves.

Manny Acosta gave up a walk and a double in the ninth. Terry Collins brought in K-Rod because he’d seen enough of Acosta in his first game back from Buffalo. K-Rod gave up a 3-run homer to the first batter he faced to make the score 6-4. But he struck out Chipper Jones to hold on for the win and get another game finished toward his vesting option.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 5 walks in the game. It was more of Jose Reyes tonight going 2 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI. He raised his season average to .337 and continues to be on fire.

Carlos Beltran left the game after fouling a ball off his right leg.

The Mets got a great start from Jon Niese and the bullpen blew the game at the end again. It’s been happening for a week now. The bullpen just can’t hold a lead. Niese was fantastic going 7.2 innings and allowing 2 runs. He had that big curve ball working well and left with a 3-2 lead. Jason Isringhausen was victimized by a critical error by Jose Reyes allowing an easy grounder to go right under his glove.

K-Rod got crushed in the ninth inning (but got another game finished toward his vesting option). He gave up 3 hits and a 1 walk in the inning to allow 3 runs. It was a complete disaster of an inning. But K-Rod has been really good this year so it’s hard to fault him for one bad game.

The Mets offense was decent with 9 hits and 1 walk in the game but they left 5 runners on base. Reyes had his 9th triple of the season and had 2 hits in the game.

The Mets lost a terrible game in the late innings again after a solid start by Chris Capuano although his line doesn’t show it. The Mets were up 2-0 after six innings. In the seventh, the Pirates strung together an inconceivable number of infield hits. They scored 5 runs in the inning. It was compounded by a couple of bad plays at third base by Willie Harris. Granted, he’s not an everyday third baseman. But he looked like it was the first game he’s ever played there tonight.

On offense the Mets had 10 hits and 2 walks but they left 7 runners on base. They’ve had a lot of trouble scoring lately and that didn’t change tonight. Although Justin Turner hit a garbage time home run in the eighth inning to break the Mets 10 game homerless drought. Jason Bay and Willie Harris were hearing the boo’s tonight too. Bay was 0 for 4 with 2 K’s. Harris was 1 for 4 with 3 K’s.

The Pirates are 2-1 in the series and the Mets need a win to split the series tomorrow afternoon.

The Mets got a tremendous game from R.A. Dickey pitching on a bad foot. He threw 7 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts but got hit in the eighth inning for 3 runs. Doing it on an injured foot was just a great effort. He didn’t get any support from the offense and didn’t deserve a loss.

Bobby Parnell was back from the DL and looked just as bad, if not worse, than when he left. He got two outs in the ninth and it took him 32 pitches to do it. He gave up 2 runs but both were unearned because of a Ruben Tejada throwing error.

The Mets offense was awful with their tenth straight game without a home run. They only mustered 6 hits and 2 walks in the game. Angel Pagan and Daniel Murphy had 2 hits apiece but they didn’t score after they put up 1 run in the first inning. The offense is just sad.

The Mets and Pirates will do it again tomorrow for the third game in the four game series.

The Mets got another good effort from Dillon Gee going 7 innings and giving up only 3 runs. He had 8 strikeouts and no walks lifting his record to 5-0 this season. He’s been terrific since last September every time he’s been given an opportunity. At this point, I don’t know how he could lose his spot in the rotation.

The Mets offense crushed the Pirates pitchers for 15 hits and 2 walks. But they left 10 runners on base. The damage could have been much worse than the 7 runs they scored. Josh Thole had the big hit, a 2-run double in the bottom of the seventh that gave the Mets the lead for good in the game. Daniel Murphy, Angel Pagan, and Ruben Tejada had 3 hits apiece tonight.

The Mets take the first game of the four game series.
