There are a million sources for the unfounded rumors of trades and acquisitions out there. I thought that I’d share a few links to some of the best.

I’m thankful for all of the people that I’ve met since I started writing this blog three seasons ago. It’s been a lot of fun interacting with Mets fans and getting hate-filled messages from Phillies fans. I didn’t realize when I started this that it would morph into a more than the blog, but it has. And I’ve ended up meeting a lot of new people through my Twitter account and Facebook as well.

We can all be thankful that the 2009 season is over! It was certainly one of the most disappointing in recent memory. I’ve already attempted to erase it from my memory.

I hope that you have a lot to be thankful for this year. Keep coming back and posting your comments on the site. We’ll keep our community of Mets fans strong even in the face of adversity like the dreadful 2009 team.

2009 MLB Playoffs Without The Mets

Although I shouldn’t be, I’m enjoying the MLB playoffs this year without the Mets. I think the reason why is because I expected the Mets to be in the playoffs in 2007 and 2008. Obviously, I had no such delusion this season.

Keeping up with other Mets fans has been interesting on my Twitter account. I haven’t seen any of us hoping that the Phillies take the series over Colorado. But I have seen some Mets fans hoping that the Yankees can go all the way.

I just don’t get that… I suppose it’s possible for a casual fan to be a “New York” fan. That’s what I’m attributing it to. But I could never see myself hoping the Yankees get another World Series championship. Enough is enough. If you’re a Mets fan hoping the Yankees go all the way, comment below about why that is. I’m curious to hear your opinion. Continue reading “2009 MLB Playoffs Without The Mets”

Mets 2009 Season Disaster Finally Ending

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 28: Carlos Delgado #21 of...

The 2009 version of the New York Mets will finally disappear into oblivion this weekend. And I can’t wait for them to go away. There’s a chance for the team to wind up losing 94 games this season, the most losses since the Art Howe-era 2003 team that finished with 95 losses. In case you’re wondering, you can find a complete list of the Mets season records here. In a dreadful season, it’s worth taking a look at some past horrible seasons.

Sure, the Mets announced that they’re lowering ticket prices for next season. But don’t mistake that move as benevolence on the part of Mets ownership based on the torturous team they subjected us to this season. Reducing tickets prices is actually a calculated move to fill more seats for more games to meet revenue goals. The team likely didn’t meet their revenue goals for Pity (Citi) Field this season. So they used mathematical projections to determine the most likely pricing scheme to deliver their goals based on price/attendance correlation. Thanks Mr. Wilpon.

Mets Sign 2009 Top Draft Pick

The Mets signed their top draft pick, second rounder Steven Matz, a left-handed pitcher from Long Island. He signed for a $895,000 signing bonus which is more than his slot as the 72nd overall pick.

The Mets didn’t have a first round pick because of free agent signings this past offseason.

There hasn’t been an official announcement from the team because Matz needs to pass a physical to consummate the deal.

NEW YORK - MAY 13: Oliver Perez #46 of the Ne...

The Mets found another stunning way to lose which they specialize in doing, especially in San Diego. Tonight they got an astoundingly good start from Oliver Perez. He cruised through the first 6 innings only allowing 1 hit and no walks. But he started to lose it in the seventh giving up a hit and two walks to score a run. Overall, it looked like a real breakthrough start for Perez. He was using a new pause during his windup that seemed to really help him.

The Mets didn’t do much on offense again, only getting 7 hits and 3 walks. They scored both runs in the first inning. Then nothing for the rest of the game. For the second straight game they only had one extra base hit in the game, a double by David Wright. Very poor hitting against a sub-par Padres team.

The ninth inning is when things got crazy. Francisco Rodriguez blew his second straight save opportunity. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even get an out in the ninth. The Padres scored the tying run on a bad call at the plate. But that wasn’t the real issue. K-Rod loaded the bases on 2 hits and 3 walks (1 intentional), then gave up a grand slam to light-hitting shortstop Everth Cabrera of all people. And that was the game.

Another stunning loss for this team.
