Here’s some video from SNY showing the Mets excellent tribute to Gary Carter on opening day 2012. The team did a great job bringing in Carter’s widow and kids for the tribute. They have a “Kid 8” patch on their sleeves this year and an image of the patch on the outfield wall.
Carter’s family all threw out the first pitch of the game as well. The Mets did a great job with the tribute to Carter. Check out the video below.
I had a good chat with Kerel Cooper from On The Black about the Mets 50th anniversary this year. You can check it out in the video below. We talked about whether we liked the promotions that the Mets are running this year to celebrate the milestone in team history. And without giving too much away about the video, I have to say that the Mets seem to be getting it right this year. Although, we did discuss the Mets motivation for running so many promotions this year.

I’m glad to get the 2012 spring training season going with the first video of the year with Kerel Cooper of On The Black. In this video we start by touching on our feeling about the Mets moves during the offseason. There weren’t that many acquisitions and one big loss of Jose Reyes to talk about.
We also talk about the changes to the dimensions at Citi Field. The fences came in a bit this year and we discuss the impact that will have on home games.

Yesterday Mets ace Johan Santana faced live hitters in batting practice for the first time this spring. He pitched two simulated innings and looked pretty good. Several of the hitters remarked that his stuff looked excellent. The plan from here is for Santana to start on Tuesday against Carlos Beltran’s Cardinals and continue to monitor how he’s doing to see how he feels.
If he continues to progress and feel good on the day after he pitches, it would be great to see him start building strength and stamina in his arm with an eye towards pitching early in the regular season.
I continue to believe that the Mets season is highly dependent on how quickly Santana can return from shoulder surgery. I don’t think they’re a playoff team even with Santana. But the season could become a complete disaster without him including the possibility of 100 losses which we haven’t seen here since ’93.
The Mets had Johan Santana back in the bullpen again today for 73 pitches. He looked good as you can see by the video below and, presumably, he felt good too. The best news is that he’s throwing regularly. This is his third session since getting to PSL. And he just threw in the bullpen on Thursday.
The plan is for Santana to start a game a week from Tuesday. But pitching coach Dan Warthen thought that Santana needed to make some adjustments after today’s session. He told the media that Santana needs to straighten up to pitch on more of a downward plane.

Here’s some video from ESPN’s Baseball Tonight on Johan Santana’s comeback from shoulder surgery. Santana threw another bullpen session today and he’s scheduled for another on Thursday, if he feels good.
Today Terry Collins made some comments to the media that he’s hopeful that Santana could be ready for opening day. That would be quite a surprise to everyone. I’d expect to see him around mid-season. It remains to be seen what he’s got left in that shoulder when he does come back though.
Notice the comment by Karl Ravech in the video about people joking that the Mets could lose 100 games this season. Ouch…
David Wright talked to Fox Sports from Port St. Lucie about getting to Florida early and working out with the young guys on the team. It’ll be a shame if the Mets have to let him go at some point in the near future like Jose Reyes. Wright is always so professional with the media and always says the right things. He’s pretty positive even in the face of adversity, maybe to a fault.
I feel like a rebound season is on the horizon for Wright. I think he’ll be the one guy that exceeds expectations this season. I’m not basing that on anything other than a gut feeling and the fact that Wright is starting to come up on the biggest free agent opportunity that he’ll have in his career in the next year or two depending on how the 2013 option plays out.
