Video: Mets Johan Santana Back on the Mound

Johan Santana got back to the mound today and threw 25 pitches in Port St. Lucie. As you know, he’s rehabbing from a serious left shoulder surgery and missed all of 2011. He looks like he’s in good shape, as you’d expect from him, and it sounds like he’s encouraged about the bullpen session today with Josh Thole.

Personally, I’m hoping that he can pitch a solid half season this year. Anything more than that will be gravy.

Check out the video below when he spoke reporters after the bullpen session.

Video: Dwight Gooden on Missing 1986 Parade

1986 World Series

It’s very well known that Dwight Gooden missed the 1986 World Series celebration parade. He said he overslept but we all knew what really happened. I don’t know anyone that didn’t assume for all these years that Doc was high as a kite somewhere during the parade and was too high or too embarrassed to make it.

Gooden is making an appearance on E:60 on ESPN with Jeremy Schaap tonight at 8pm. He finally admits what everyone else already knew, he was high during the parade. Doc admits that he was in some projects on Long Island getting high and just lost track of time and missed the parade.

I’m not sure why this is such a big deal. We all knew the truth anyway. But there something to hearing Doc admit it that can lay to rest oneĀ  of the minor mysteries of Mets history.

Check out the video below and let me know your thoughts in the comments. Are you glad that he finally admitted it? Or it doesn’t matter anymore because too much time has passed and we all knew what happened anyway?

In this week’s Mets Weekly Report, I talk with Kerel Cooper of OnTheBlack.com about two Mets players that have been prominent in the news this week. Everyone is concerned about the looming specter of Jose Reyes’ free agency. But there are some other big names that are going to be in free agency when the 2011 season ends including Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder. Kerel brings up the question “Who is more valuable to their team Reyes or Pujols?”.

We also talk about the Mets decision to re-sign relief pitcher Tim Byrdak before he hits free agency. Byrdak has had a solid year as the lefty specialist and even navigated some full innings during the 2011 season.

Check out the video below for our thoughts on Reyes and Byrdak.

Mets September 11, 2011 Game

I was at at the Mets-Cubs game last night with my father and I wanted to share a few images with you. As you know, it was another disappointing loss in a season filled with them so far. But the pre-game ceremony was more than worth the price of admission. The crowd was sparse as you would expect at this point in the season without playoff hopes. And the Cubs aren’t exactly a draw either.

There were representatives from pretty much every city service agency on the field before the game along with the kids from Tuesday’s Children. The NYPD and FDNY bagpipers and drummers were marching in a stirring ceremony that was filled with emotion. Continue reading “Mets September 11, 2011 Game”

In this week’s Mets Weekly Report video I talk to Kerel Cooper of OnTheBlack.com about the September 11th game tonight and the future of Bobby Parnell. I’ll be at the game tonight against the Cubs for the September 11th remembrance ceremony. It should be an emotional night with families of the victims in attendance along with some of the heroes of 9/11, some of the members of the 2001 Mets, and Marc Anthony singing the national anthem.

We also talk about the recent struggles of Parnell. The problems that he’s had recently have caused some fans to reconsider whether he should be the Mets closer now and if there’s a future in closing for him. Although I’m not impressed with what I’ve seen from Parnell recently, I think there’s hope for the future. Check out the video below to see why and leave your comments at the bottom of the page.
