New York Mets (15-20) at Colorado Rockies (19-13) 8:40pm

Mike Pelfrey (2-3 6.06) vs. Jason Hammel (3-1 2.63)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets have lost five straight games to the Rockies this year and try to break the trend behind Pelfrey. His last start against the Giants was really good going 7.2 innings and allowing only 2 runs. But the Rockies hit him on April 11th for 3 earned runs over 5.1 innings in a no decision.

The Rockies have won four of the six games that Hammel started this year. He’s only allowed 2 runs in his last three starts over 20.2 innings. He pitched well at Citi Field against Pelfrey on April 11th going 6 innings and allowing 2 earned runs.

The Mets lost to the Rockies for the fifth straight time this year but this time it was in Colorado for a change. Chris Capuano pitched a really nice game going 6.1 innings and allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. He got chased in the seventh inning when Chris Iannetta hit a solo homer down the line in left field to give the Rockies the lead.

The Mets had very little offense with only 5 singles and 6 walks in the game. They had plenty of chances but left 10 runners on base. Willie Harris had a check swing single in the ninth to get something going. But he got thrown out stealing with one out that killed any chance of starting a rally.

The Mets and Rockies do it again tomorrow night at 8:40pm.

New York Mets (15-19) at Colorado Rockies (18-13) 8:40pm

Chris Capuano (2-3 5.40) vs. Jhoulys Chacin (4-2 2.85)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The first place Rockies just got swept in San Francisco and are 2-7 in their last nine games. They put an absolute beating on the Mets three weeks ago when they swept the Mets at Citi Field in four games. Troy Tulowitzki was unstoppable in that series. The Rockies have won four of the six games Chacin started this season. He won his last start in Arizona going 7 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.

Capuano pitched well in his last start although the Mets lost to the Giants. He went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. His starts have been pretty inconsistent this season so it’s tough to predict what we’ll see from him tonight. For his career, he’s 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 4 games at Coors Field.

The Mets couldn’t get much offense going against Clayton Kershaw. They only had 8 hits and 4 walks in the game and left 10 on base. Only Jose Reyes had an extra base hit for the Mets, another triple that scored Daniel Murphy in the bottom of the ninth.

R.A. Dickey was decent but not outstanding again going 7 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. He did allow 10 hits and 2 walks so he had trouble going throughout the game.

The Mets won the series despite the loss today and head to Colorado for a three game series.

Clayton Kershaw (3-3 3.38) vs. R.A. Dickey (1-3 4.62)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are going for the sweep today before they leave for Colorado. It won’t be easy against Kershaw though, one of the best young pitchers in baseball. His last start was a good win against the Cubs going 7 innings and allowing only 2 runs.

Dickey hasn’t gotten a win since April 3rd and he got rocked in his last start against the Giants for 6 runs in 6 innings. He hasn’t been the stopper that he was last year by any stretch of the imagination.

In this week’s Mets Weekly Report video with Kerel Cooper of On The Black, we talk about the current Dodgers series. The Mets have won the first two games and go for the sweep today. We talk about beating the teams from the west coast and the Dodgers lineup and finances.

We also get into the frustration of Chris Young pitching well but missing last night’s start at the last minute. He appears headed for the disabled list for the second time in the first six weeks of the season.

Kerel brings up the issue of what to do with Jason Pridie when Angel Pagan comes back from the disabled list. Do the Mets release Willie Harris and keep Pridie as a bench player?

The Mets won their third straight game, won the series against the Dodgers, and have a chance for a sweep tomorrow. The big story in this game was that Chris Young had trouble getting loose in the bullpen before the game and was scratched. Dillon Gee got the last minute call to start. He seemed to be in trouble in every inning but went 5.1 innings and allowed only 2 runs.

The Mets offense had 9 hits and 5 walks. Jose Reyes was 2 for 5 but fell asleep off first base and got picked off by Dioneer Navarro in an embarrassing play. Then he broke from second to third on a ball hit to the shortstop. He definitely didn’t have his head in the game on the bases tonight.

The big hit came in the bottom of the eighth from Justin Turner. The bases were loaded and he hit a long ball to center that went over Matt Kemp’s head for a long single scoring 2 runs.
