Video Highlights

The Mets dropped the first game of the four game series to the Phillies and wasted another great start by Johan Santana. He went eight innings giving up only two runs on six hits and no walks. He had a hiccup in the sixth giving up two runs but other than that he was masterful.

The offense failed the Mets again tonight. After getting some good hitting in St. Louis the Mets reverted to form. Ramon Castro went 2 for 3 with a double but that was about it for any kind of offensive star of the game.

Duaner Sanchez lost the tie game in the ninth inning after giving up a double to Pedro Feliz, then a single to Shane Victorino scoring Feliz.

Mets Armas Gets Win Over Cards 7-4

image Tony Armas, Jr. didn’t look like a Cy Young Award candidate in his spot start but he did get the win. He went six innings giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk. Armas was shaky early in the game giving up a two run homer to Rick Ankiel in the first inning. But he settled down and threw strikes. He doesn’t look like he has much of an arsenal to rely on but may be serviceable as a long man in the bullpen.

The Mets offense woke up tonight! David Wright was 3 for 4 with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Carlos Delgado was 3 for 3 with two doubles. Ramon Castro was the offensive star going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Castro had a two run double in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth.

There was a scary moment in the eighth inning. Yadier Molina hit a line drive off the leg of Duaner Sanchez. David Wright picked up the carom and threw out Molina at first base for the last out of the inning. So we don’t know the extent of the injury yet.

Oliver Perez Great As Mets Win Big 7-1

Manager Willie Randolph needed a win tonight and he got one thanks to Oliver Perez. He went seven innings giving up one run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. The bullpen actually did the job tonight too. Scott Schoenweiss pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Duaner Sanchez a perfect ninth.

Things were dicey early when Josh Hamilton hit a long homer to left field off Perez in the first inning. But Perez recovered nicely.

The offensive stars were Jose Reyes who went 2 for 4, scored two runs and had a stolen base. Perez also had a two RBI single to left in the sixth inning that drew applause from the Mets dugout.

Mets Drop Fifth Consecutive; Lose To Arizona 9-5

The Mets started the game looking great with John Maine getting through five innings; Carlos Delgado hustling for an extra base on a single and an error; Moises Alou coming back and looking great but it all fell apart. The Mets lose their fifth consecutive game and first of the series to Arizona.

Maine went only five innings giving up three runs while throwing 101 pitches. Claudio Vargas lost the lead in the sixth inning before there was the game was suspended due to thunderstorms.

Duaner Sanchez got bombed in the ninth inning. He gave up three runs on two homers to Stephen Drew and Connor Jackson.

On offense David Wright had a home run to left in the second inning. Moises Alou came back with a key two RBI single in the first inning, it was on the first pitch he saw back from the disabled list.

The Met struggles continue with the only good news being that the Phillies finally lost a game. So the Mets stay even at 7.5 games back.
