Paul Maholm (3-0 2.97) vs. John Maine (2-2 5.20)

TV: SNY    RadioWFAN

What to watch:  The Mets are going for their sixth straight win this afternoon. Maholm is a tough lefty with left-handed hitters batting only .133 against him this season. Expect to see Fernando Tatis and Gary Sheffield in the lineup today. Maine has started to turn things around recently winning his last two starts.

Mets 1- Phillies 0 May 6, 2009

Johan Santana. What more can you say? This guy is unbelievable.  Tonight he went 7 innings giving up only 2 hits and 3 walks and had 10 strikeouts. His season ERA is down to 0.91 now.

The Mets only got 2 hits in the game. They scored the only run of the game in the seventh innings. Carlos Delgado walked and Fernando Tatis had an infield single that Pedro Feliz threw away into right field. Delgado chugged all the way around from first base to score. He ran threw a Razor http://www.besttramadolonlinestore.com Shines stop sign to score as well.

It seems like Tatis is in the middle of something positive for the Mets every time he gets into a game. This is a continuation of last season. He just seems to have a knack for doing something good for the team.

I should also mention that Chan Ho Park was also outstanding tonight for the Phillies. He went 6 innings giving up only 1 hit.

Phillies logoNew York Mets (10-13 Road: 4-7) at Philadelphia Phillies (12-10 Home: 6-8) 1:35 pm

John Maine (1-2 5.40) vs. Joe Blanton (0-2 8.41)

TV: WPIX  RadioWFAN

Update (12:21 pm): The game has been rained out and will be re-scheduled at a later date.

What to watch:  The Mets and Phils kick off the rubber game of the series this afternoon on WPIX in New York. Blanton’s been having some serious problems this season, while Maine was very strong in his last start against the Marlins. We’ll see if Carlos Delgado feels healthy enough to start today after pinch hitting yesterday. Fernando Tatis has been filling in at first base very capably in his absence.

Mets 4- Nationals 3 April 24, 2009

42409Johan Santana was fantastic again. It’s hard to believe that a pitcher can be this good consistently. He went 6 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits and had 10 strikeouts, including the first six consecutive batters. He’s totally in the zone this season.

The Mets put together 4 runs over four different innings. The team left 13 runners on base including 9 in scoring position. That continues to be a problem. The offensive leader tonight was Fernando Tatis. He was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored. It was good to see him get going tonight. We haven’t seen enough of him so far this season.

Francisco Rodriguez did give up a 2-run homer to Jesus Flores in the ninth. But he hadn’t pitched in six straight days, so I’ll cut him some slack on that. He didn’t look sharp at all.

The Nationals are always good to play to end a losing streak and that was the case tonight.

Washington Nationals logoWashington Nationals (3-11 Road: 0-6) at New York Mets (6-9 Home: 3-3)  7:10 pm

Scott Olsen (0-2 9.00) vs. Johan Santana (2-1 0.46)

TV: SNY   RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets are in a 4-game losing streak and coming off a sweep at the hands of the Cardinals. The Nationals just won 2 of 3 at home against Atlanta. Olsen’s last start was a no decision against the Marlins and was a very good game, 7 IP and 2 ER. Santana hasn’t given up an earned run in his last two starts. He’s been terrific. The Mets need to get things turned around starting tonight. Olsen is the first lefty starter they’ve faced this season. Both Fernando Tatis and Gary Sheffield will be in the lineup.

Brewers 4 Mets 2 April 19,2009

Score 4.19.09The Mets blew a quality start by Nelson Figueroa by not hitting, again, with runners in scoring position. They were 2 for 13 in the game and are now hitting .236 as a team with RISP through the first 12 games of the season.

The Mets couldn’t do anything with Carlos Beltran and Gary Sheffield on with no outs in the seventh inning. Fernando Tatis struck out and Omir Santos lined into a double play to end the threat. There’s been some criticism of Jerry Manuel’s decision not to sacrifice the runner’s around with Tatis’ spot in the lineup. But I like having Tatis hit with a runner in scoring position versus a sacrifice. He hit .392 with RISP in 74 at-bats last season so I like those odds.

The Mets win 2 for 3 from the Brewers in the series but their season record drops to 6-6.

Milwaukee Brewers logoMilwaukee Brewers (3-8 Road: 1-4) at New York Mets (6-5 Home: 3-2) 1:10 pm

Jeff Suppan (0-2 12.91) vs. Nelson Figueroa (0-0 0.00)

TV: WPIX RadioWFAN

What to watch: Suppan has been horrible for the Brewers in his two starts this season. The team was even considering skipping this start to give him some time to figure out what’s going wrong. Figueroa is making the start for the slightly injured Mike Pelfrey today. We may see Fernando Tatis get a start at second base. That could be interesting. Although he appears to be much more comfortable playing the infield than the outfield.
