http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets finally lost in their eighth game of the road trip. It’s been an incredible run over the last week and a half. Mike Pelfrey gave up 2-run homers to Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson plus a run on a an infield ground ball in the first. His velocity was excellent but he just wasn’t fooling anyone today. The sinker and splitter weren’t moving as much as they normally do. Pelfrey takes the loss but got through 7 innings and gave up all 5 runs for the Yankees.

The Mets didn’t get the big offense that they’ve been getting on their recent run. They got 6 hits and 3 walks. All 3 runs were scored on Jose Reyes home runs. He led off the game with a homer and hit a 2-run shot in his second at-bat. That was it for the scoring. Angel Pagan had another nice game at the plate going 2 for 3 with a double. Oddly, he was caught stealing for the second straight game.

The Mets and Yankees will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow at Yankee Stadium.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets won their seventh straight game behind a strong start from Hisanori Takahashi. He went 6 innings of shutout baseball and got out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth on a beautiful play by David Wright. Pedro Feliciano threw 2 shutout innings and looked better than he has all season.

The Mets had 8 hits and 6 walks on offense. They scored 1 run in the first and that held up until the eighth when they tacked on 2 more runs and 1 in the ninth. Jose Reyes stayed hot going 2 for 5 with 1 double and 1 RBI.

A shutout is a great way to start the three game series in the Bronx and keep the incredible road momentum going.

Mets 6 – Indians 4 June 17, 2010

June 16, 2010 - Cleveland, OHIO, UNITED STATES - epa02206096 Jose Reyes of the New York Mets tosses his glove in the air during the eighth inning against the Cleveland Indians in their game at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, 16 June 2010. The Mets defeated the Indians 8-4.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got another quality start from R.A. Dickey who went 6 innings and gave up 3 runs (2 earned). He went to 5-0 with his fifth consecutive win. He’s had quite a few baserunners with a 1.41 WHIP but really seems to bear down and get out of trouble keeping his ERA at 2.82.

The offense was rocking again with 14 hits and 2 walks. They scored 3 runs in the first inning and were off and running. Jose Reyes had a big game going 3 for 5 with 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 double, and 1 triple. He also made a couple of really nice plays in the field. He looks like the old Reyes.

The Mets swept their second consecutive road series and start up three games in the Bronx tomorrow night.

Mets’ Angel Pagan: A Refined Talent

Angel Pagan

Entering the 2010 campaign, the ceiling of Angel Pagan was seemingly an enigma. A talented outfielder plagued by injuries and bone-headed on the field mishaps, all we could really be confident about was that Pagan was a better alternative in center field than the great Gary Matthews Jr. Up to this point though, hitting in a line-up that lacks a true identity, Pagan has been an offensive propeller for the Mets.

So far this season, Pagan has proved all of his critics wrong. Boasting a solid .283 BA, he’s hit in all different slots of the Mets lineup and is well on his way to scoring 100 runs on the season. Pagan has also proved that he’s more of a threat on the bases this year with 12 swipes in 15 chances. He was gunned down a third of the time last season by opposing catchers. http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got a great comeback start from Hisanori Takahashi to win their first road series in nearly a year. Of course, the Orioles are a good team to get some wins against. Takahashi went 7 IP giving up 1 run on 6 hits and 1 walk. He gave up the run in the bottom of the first and I was thinking it was going to be another bust of a start, but he recovered nicely to sail through the next six innings.

The Mets offense wasn’t great tonight. They created 3 runs out of only 5 hits and no walks. Jose Reyes led off the game with a home run and went 2 for 3 on the night. Jeff Francoeur also hit a solo homer in the eighth inning to add on an insurance run.

The Mets have already won the series and go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon.

Mets 3 – Padres 0 June 10, 2010

Apr. 19, 2010 - Flushing Meadows, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES - epa02124425 The Mets' Jonathon Niese pitches during the fourth inning of the game between the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows, New York, USA, on 19 April 2010.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got a complete game 1-hit shutout from Jon Niese to win the series. The only hit for the Padres was a double by Chris Denorfia in the third inning. Niese was that close to a perfect game. He was completely cruising through this one.

The Mets had some decent offense going too with 8 hits and 3 walks. Jose Reyes was 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 SB (15th of the season). Ike Davis was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jesus Feliciano made his debut and went 0 for 4.

This game also had another interesting play. The Padres pulled off an around the horn triple play on a Ruben Tejada ground ball to third.

The Mets win the home series and hit the road to Baltimore for the weekend.

REUTERS/Ray Stubblebine (UNITED STATES - Tags: SPORT BASEBALL)

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets came out on top of this one in 11 innings on a solo shot way out into the Pepsi porch by Ike Davis. That was a jump out of your seat moment but Mike Pelfrey was outstanding again through 9 innings. He only gave up 5 hits, 1 run, and no walks, with 6 strikeouts. It’s a shame that it went to extras and he didn’t get the win or complete game.

Other than Davis’ big blast to win it, the Mets as a team had 9 hits and 1 walk. David Wright was 2 for 4 with a double and is up to a respectable .283 avg. now. Angel Pagan was 2 for 5 with a triple and a stolen base. He continues to make plays every single day. And Jose Reyes was 2 for 4 with a big home run to left field to tie it in the seventh. The home run barely made it out and was reviewed. It was initially called a in play but after review it was ruled a home run.

These kind of games are my favorites to watch. I love the pitching duels. Great way to start the home series against the Pads.
