New York Mets (22-23) at New York Yankees (24-20) 1:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (3-3 5.11) vs. Ivan Nova (4-3 4.33)

TV: TBS,YES, WPIX              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Yankees play the rubber game of the series this afternoon in the Bronx. Pelfrey has had three good starts in a row and only allowed 5 runs over that span.

Nova has been up and down for the Yankees but they’re 5-3 in his 8 starts this season. And he was good in his last start in Tampa going 5.1 innings and only allowing 1 run.

Florida Marlins (23-16) at New York Mets (19-21) 7:10pm

Josh Johnson (3-1 1.63) vs. Mike Pelfrey (3-3 5.74)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Of course, the concern with this game is that the Mets can’t compete against Johnson. He’s one of the best, if not the best, pitchers in baseball and he already beat the Mets on opening day this year. But the Marlins have lost two of the last three games that he started.

Pelfrey finally seems to have gotten it together and won the last the two games he started. I’m just worried that going against Johnson is the kind of game that Pelfrey shrinks from. He got roughed up on opening day when he faced Johnson and Pelfrey is more of a front runner than a mountain climber.

The Mets finally got a win against the Rockies this season after starting 0-5. Mike Pelfrey had a second consecutive solid start and hit a 2-run double in the fourth inning that plated the winning run. He ended up going 6.2 innings and allowing 3 runs to lower his season ERA to 5.74. He still has a way to go to make that ERA respectable but he seems to be on the right track now.

The big news is that Ike Davis was injured on a collision with David Wright. They were going for a pop up in front of the mound. It looked like Davis rolled his ankle but it turns out that he strained his calf. Daniel Murphy moved over to first base and Justin Turner took over at second base.

The Mets and Rockies finish the series, weather permitting, today at 3pm.

New York Mets (15-20) at Colorado Rockies (19-13) 8:40pm

Mike Pelfrey (2-3 6.06) vs. Jason Hammel (3-1 2.63)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets have lost five straight games to the Rockies this year and try to break the trend behind Pelfrey. His last start against the Giants was really good going 7.2 innings and allowing only 2 runs. But the Rockies hit him on April 11th for 3 earned runs over 5.1 innings in a no decision.

The Rockies have won four of the six games that Hammel started this year. He’s only allowed 2 runs in his last three starts over 20.2 innings. He pitched well at Citi Field against Pelfrey on April 11th going 6 innings and allowing 2 earned runs.

Preview: Giants at Mets May 5, 2011

San Francisco Giants (15-15) at New York Mets (12-18) 1:10pm

Jonathan Sanchez (2-1 2.73) vs. Mike Pelfrey (1-3 7.39)

TV:SNY    Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Giants are feasting on the last place Mets and go for the sweep this afternoon. The Giants have won four of the last five games that Sanchez has started. He’s been pitching really well. He’s only allowed 2 hits in each of his last three starts but he has been a little wild with 13 walks over those three starts.

The Mets have lost five of the six games that Pelfrey started this year. He’s been having a terrible season and got hit hard by Philly in his last start for 4 runs in 4.1 innings.

Phillies 10 – Mets 3 April 29, 2011

The Mets got rocked in this game even worse than the score indicates. They were down 10-0 going into the ninth inning. Ike Davis and Jason Pridie hit homers in the ninth to make it somewhat respectable. Mike Pelfrey looked decent after overcoming a nasty flu but lost it in the fourth and fifth innings and ended up allowing 4 runs in 4.1 innings.

Dillon Gee had a bad debut out of the bullpen too. Ryan Howard ripped a grand slam off Gee for his second homer of the game. It was ugly all the way around for the Mets tonight.

New York Mets (11-14) at Philadelphia Phillies (16-8)  7:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (1-2 7.23) vs. Joe Blanton (0-1 5.92)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets already lost a series in Philly in the first week of the season. Pelfrey had his worst start of the season in that series, and that’s saying something. He only went 2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs.

The Phillies are just half a game behind the Rockies for the best record in baseball. They’re coming off a west coast road trip where they swept four games in San Diego and then lost two of three to Arizona. Blanton has pitched really well in his last two starts after a rough beginning to the season. He’s only allowed 4 runs in 14 innings in his last two starts.
