New York Yankees (50-31) at New York Mets (41-42) 1:10pm

Freddy Garcia (7-6 3.28) vs. R.A. Dickey (4-7 3.77)

TV: TBS             Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are trying to avoid the home sweep today if the weather allows. Its’ supposed to be raining pretty heavily on and off today. If you’re home watching today, don’t forget that the game is on TBS for some reason.

Garcia has been pitching incredibly well for the Yanks lately. He hasn’t gone less than 6 innings in a start since June 7th. He’s won three of his last four starts and hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in a game during that span.

Everyone on the Mets will need to pick it up today without Jose Reyes in the lineup. Angel Pagan will be hitting leadoff and Ruben Tejada will be at shortstop. Dickey’s last two starts against Detroit and Oakland were both solid. He pitched 15 innings and allowed 4 runs in those starts.

The Mets jumped on Rick Porcello right from the start scoring 2 runs in the first and they were off an running from there. It was a complete blowout and, surprisingly, the second time they scored 14 runs in a game on this road trip. R.A. Dickey was solid for 7 innings only allowing 3 runs and that was all the Mets needed.

The story of the game was offense and more offense. The Mets had 18 hits and 5 walks including two grand slams from Carlos Beltran and Jason Bay. Light-hitting Josh Thole even hit a home. Of course, Jose Reyes went crazy going 4 for 4 with 3 runs. It was just an incredible offensive display.

The Mets are 3-1 on this road trip and a game over .500. They’re undermanned but not giving up on this season that’s for sure.

Preview: A’s at Mets June 22, 2011

Oakland A’s (34-40) at New York Mets (35-38) 7:10pm

Gio Gonzalez (6-5 2.69) vs. R.A. Dickey (3-7 4.00)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: After losing the first game of the series, the Mets need to win tonight and tomorrow to take the series from the A’s and avoid a losing home stand. It won’t be easy going up against Gonzalez tonight. He’s having an excellent season so far. He did it last year too. In 2010, he had a 3.23 ERA in 33 starts for the A’s.

Dickey will be looking to regain his form after having a terrible start in Atlanta last week. He gave up 4 runs in 4 innings and just didn’t look like himself. Maybe Jason Bay can help him out tonight by continuing to hit the ball again.

What a roller coaster this game was. I went from thrilled and excited to utterly disgusted and then even more disgusted. Typical Mets game.

This one went 10 innings tonight. It started out with a rough game by R.A. Dickey. He just didn’t have it and only went 4 innings allowing 4 earned runs. The Mets were down 6-2 after the fourth inning when Jason Bay (yeah, that Jason Bay) hit an RBI single and Scott Hairston hit a bomb of a 3-run homer. We haven’t seen many of those this year. It had me thinking a big comeback win was in the making.

The Mets took an 8-6 lead into the ninth when K-Rod allowed a 2-run homer to pinch hitter Brooks Conrad to tie the game. At least he wouldn’t get another game finished toward his vesting option!

In the tenth inning, D.J. Carrasco allowed 2 hits and a walk. Then he balked with a runner on third base to lose the game. Losing on a balk in the tenth inning! It was horrendous.

The Mets still win the series in Atlanta 2-1 and finish the road trip at 6-4.

Preview: Mets at Braves June 16, 2011

New York Mets (34-34) at Atlanta Braves (38-31) 7:10pm

R.A. Dickey (3-7 3.98) vs. Mike Minor (0-2 4.50)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Surprisingly, the Mets have a chance to sweep the Braves in Atlanta tonight. They’ll go for it with Dickey on the mound who has lost two of three starts since he hurt his foot. But he’s been pitching really well during that span allowing 7 runs in 23.2 innings (2.72 ERA).

The Braves have Minor on the mound tonight making his fifth start of the season. He’s never pitched more than 6 innings in a start this year and the Braves are 2-2 in his starts. In his last start, he allowed 2 runs over 6 innings in Houston.

The Mets lost tonight despite a complete game from R.A. Dickey. He went 8 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks. It was another gutty performance on a bad foot. He didn’t deserve the loss and really didn’t deserve to give up all of the runs as earned. Andrew McCutchen doubled in the third inning on a play that should have been made by Daniel Murphy at third base. Two runs scored and that was the difference in the game. It was another example of how you can’t hide Murphy in the field and it cost the Mets a game.

The Mets were hitting well tonight with 10 hits and 4 walks in the game. Jose Reyes had 2 more hits raising his season average to .341. And Ruben Tejada was second in the order and went 2 for 4 raising his average to .338.

New York Mets (31-32) at Pittsburgh Pirates (30-32) 7:05pm

R.A. Dickey (3-6 4.04) vs. James McDonald (3-4 4.97)

TV: WPIX              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are going for their third straight win tonight and their sixth in seven games. They’ll do it behind Dickey who’s been pitching really well since the middle of May. He’s still got a bad foot but it doesn’t appear to be slowing him down anywhere but at the plate.

McDonald has also been pitching really well since mid-May for the Pirates. Over his last four starts he’s pitched 22.2 innings and allowed only 7 runs (2.84 ERA).

It’ll be interesting to see if Jason Bay is back in the lineup tonight. The lineup seems to be much more consistent without him.
