http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsTonight’s game was a fantastic pitcher’s duel and R.A. Dickey came out on top with a 1-hitter. The only hit he gave up was a single to Cole Hamels of all people with one out in the sixth. Hamels also pitched a complete game 5-hitter. It was a real treat for fans of good pitching.

The Mets only run was scored in the sixth inning when David Wright doubled over the head of Shane Victorino. Carlos Beltran doubled off the wall in left to score the run.

That was a great way to start a tough series with the Phillies. Tomorrow’s pitcher will be Pat Misch making his first start of the year after having a very solid season at Triple-A Buffalo.

Phillies 6 – Mets 5 August 8, 2010

July 25, 2010 - Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES - epa02261051 New York Mets' R.A. Dickey pitches during first inning of a Major League baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles, California, USA, 25 July 2010.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe glory days for R.A. Dickey came crashing down today as he only lasted 3 innings and gave up 6 runs (4 earned). The Phillies put up 5 runs in the third, mostly on a 3-run shot by Raul Ibanez. Dickey just didn’t seem to have it from the get-go the Phillies were really patient today taking a lot of his pitches.

The Mets had some offense going with 10 hits and 1 walk in the game. They got to Roy Halladay, which doesn’t happen very often. But it was just too little to recover from the damage done to Dickey earlier in the game. The Mets put up 2 runs in the first and looked like they were going to run rough-shot over the Phils today. Josh Thole went 3 for 4 and Angel Pagan was all over the place going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 SB’s. Chris Carter had a great pinch hit RBI double to the wall in center field that just missed going out and tying the game.

The Mets drop another series and head home to play the Rockies on Tuesday.

R.A. Dickey (7-4 2.36) vs Roy Halladay (13-8 2.17)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Phillies play the rubber game of the series today in what should be a good pitching match up. Dickey has been excellent and consistent since his first start on May 19. I keep waiting for him to lost it, but it hasn’t happened. Expect Fernando Martinez to get the start in right field today. It won’t be easy for the Mets against Halladay. He’s had three straight great starts and wins only giving up 2 runs in his last 24 innings over that period.

Mets 3 – Braves 2 August 3, 2010

July 22, 2010 Los Angeles, CA..New York Mets Jeff Francoeur in the fifth inning in action during the Major League Baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium July 22, 2010 in Los Angeles, California..The Dodgers defeat the Mets 2-0.Louis Lopez/CSM.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got another solid start from R.A. Dickey going 6 innings and giving up only 2 runs. It’s amazing how consistent he’s been. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop but it hasn’t happened. Manny Acosta had a really good relief appearance back in Atlanta going 1.2 scoreless innings.

On offense, the Mets had 9 hits and 2 walks. Luis Castillo was the only player with 2 hits in the game including a double. Chris Carter had a big pinch hit RBI single in the seventh inning to tie it up. Then Jeff Francoeur hit a solo homer to right off Billy Wagner to win it in the top of the ninth. He’s been awful lately, so it’s nice to see him do something positive back home in Atlanta.

The Mets and Braves will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow night.

R.A. Dickey (7-4 2.32) vs Derek Lowe (10-9 4.58)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: It’s a sad state of affairs when the Mets need to rely on Dickey to be the stopper, but that’s where we are. He hasn’t given up a run in his last two starts. Fortunately, Lowe has been giving up runs and games at an alarming rate recently. He’s given up 11 runs in his last three starts.

Blake Hawksworth (4-6 5.23) vs R.A. Dickey (6-4 2.55)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Cardinals play the rubber game of the series early today. Most of Hawksworth’s appearance have come out of the bullpen and he hasn’t fared very well recently. So the Mets have a chance and getting some good offense going today. Dickey left his last start with an injured leg but it wasn’t serious, so he’ll go again today. He’s been outstanding this season, almost beyond belief.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets had no offense again and go down in flames for the ninth time on this road trip. R.A. Dickey was pitching well into the sixth when he appeared to injure his leg on a fielding play in front of the plate. Jerry Manuel pulled him with two outs in the sixth and the two had words on the mound. He was pitching masterfully only allowing 2 hits, no runs, no walks, and had 6 strikeouts.

The Mets offense was weak again with only 7 hits and 1 walk. Luis Castillo had 2 hits in the game and the Mets had 3 doubles but Clayton Kershaw is a tough pitcher and the Mets offense has been dreadful. That’s a bad combination leading to the Mets getting shut out again.

Pedro Feliciano gave it up in the eighth inning on a Russell Martin double that scored Matt Kemp and that was the game.

The Mets head home from a 2-9 road trip and will certainly face some dissatisfied home fans.
