Mets Roster Changes- June 10

The Mets made several roster moves today:

  • Activated Moises Alou from 15 day disabled list
  • Activated Marlon Anderson from 15 day disabled list
  • Placed Ryan Church on 15 day disabled list with post concussion syndrome
  • Designated Raul Casanova for assignment

Apparently, Abraham Nunez is staying. He can’t hit at all but can play the infield.

Padres Complete Sweep of Mets With 8-6 Win

Tony Clark’s pinch hit, three run homer off Billy Wagner in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a sweep for the Padres. With two men on, Willie Randolph brought in closer Wagner for a four out save. That also turned switch hitter Tony Clark to his right side, much weaker hitting than his left. But Tony Clark came through with a bomb to center field that won the game.

Pedro Martinez had a bad start today going five innings and allowing four runs. He gave up ten hits during the start and looks like an old pitcher whose career is running on fumes.

Surprisingly, Carlos Delgado had his second straight three hit game including a triple. He hadn’t hit a triple since 2006. But his effort was wasted again as the Mets continue to find new ways to lose.

Ramon Castro was scheduled to start at catcher but overslept and showed up an hour before the game at the stadium. Randolph benched and fined him. Raul Casanova started in his place.

Mets News Today- June 8- Church, Santana, Alou, And Casanova

Several Mets players are in the news today as they finish the fourth game of their series against the San Diego Padres.

  • Ryan Church seems to be having an adverse reaction to his concussion suffered two and a half weeks ago. He’s not going to play again today and will be examined by a neurologist when the Mets return to New York tomorrow. This will be the second time since the injury that he’s been examined by a neurologist.
  • Moises Alou is scheduled to come off the disabled list on Tuesday against the D-Backs. He’s been unavailable for almost three weeks since straining his calf in Atlanta.
  • Johan Santana seems to be fine after being hit by a pitch in his left shoulder on Friday in San Diego. He doesn’t expect the shoulder to interrupt his pitching schedule.
  • Raul Casanova is back from the bereavement list. His father passed away this week. Robinson Cancel was sent back to Triple-A New Orleans.

Casanova Leaving Mets For Bereavement

The New York Post is reporting that Raul Casanova is leaving the team immediately because his father passed away. The Mets can replace him on the roster, and he can leave the team for three to seven days.

Although I don’t think that having a third catcher on the team added a lot of value, he’s done a nice job when he’s played. It seems like he’s made an offensive contribution in every game that he’s started.

Report: Angel Pagan Not Close To Returning

Adam Rubin of the Daily News reports that Angel Pagan still can’t bat without pain from the right side. He hurt his shoulder rolling over the short fence in left field at Dodger Stadium on May 7th.

I would assume that he’ll replace Raul Casanova on the roster when he’s ready to return. Nick Evans will probably go back to the minors when Moises Alou comes back.

Alou Likely To Disabled List

Bart Hubbach of the NY Post is reporting that Moises Alou is likely to go on the disabled list with the left calf strain that took him out of yesterday’s game.

Raul Casanova is on his way to Atlanta to join the team to replace Alou on the roster. Willie Randolph noted that Casanova can also play first base.

Tonight’s corner outfielders will be Marlon Anderson in left and Endy Chavez in right. Ryan Church is still recovering from the mild concussion that he suffered when he collided with Yunel Escobar at second base.

Having Casanova on the roster will be nice to free up the Mets to pinch hit Ramon Castro or use him in double switch situations.
