Video Highlights

The Mets win their sixth game in a row to complete the three game sweep of the San Francisco Giants.  John Maine wasn’t very sharp today lasting only 4.2 innings. He only gave up two hits but walked five and gave up two runs.

Fernando Tatis was on fire today going 3 for 4 with a huge two run homer to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning. He also had a double in the fifth inning. Jerry Manuel’s practice of playing the hot hitter paid off again.

The bullpen success was big today. The final 4.1 innings were worked without allowing a run by Carlos Muniz, Scott Schoenweiss, Duaner Sanchez, and Billy Wagner.

On Deck: July 10- Giants At Mets Game 3

San Francisco Giants (39-52 Road: 22-24) at New York Mets (47-44 Home: 24-18) 1:10pm

Barry Zito (4-12 5.73) vs. John Maine (8-6 3.91)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the three game sweep this afternoon and six wins in a row. The biggest bust in baseball history Barry Zito goes up against the Mets today. He has won four of his last ten starts though after a dreadful start to the season. Maine left his last start with cramping in his non-pitching arm but should be fine today. He hasn’t had a “bad” start since June 15th against Texas.

San Francisco Giants (39-50 Road: 22-22) at New York Mets (45-44 Home: 22-18) 7:10pm

Tim Lincecum (10-1 2.49) vs. Mike Pelfrey (6-6 4.23)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are riding high after taking three straight games in Philly. But the Mets go up against boy wonder Lincecum tonight who hasn’t lost a game since April 29. The Giants moved him up so he could get two starts in before the All-Star break so he’s going on short rest tonight and coming off a cross country flight yesterday. Pelfrey hasn’t lost a game since May 26. He’s won four straight starts now. This should be a good one.

Mets Take Series From Giants With 5-3 Win

The Mets took two out of three in San Francisco from the Giants before leaving for San Diego today. John Maine looked good going six strong innings giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk for his seventh win. He also had four strikeouts. Jose Reyes let one go under his glove for his tenth error to allow the unearned run.

Duaner Sanchez pitched the seventh and eighth innings allowing one run. He did have a scare in the eighth inning when Bengie Molina hit one to the wall with two men on.

Reyes was the offensive star of the game going 3 for 4 with his eighth home run and a stolen base, his 19th of the season.

On Deck: June 4- Mets At Giants

New York Mets (29-28) at San Francisco Giants (25-34) 3:45pm

John Maine (5-4) vs. Matt Cain (2-3)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: After the triumphant return of Pedro Martinez last night, John Maine tries to finish off the series win with a victory today. The Mets really should take a series from a team as bad as the Giants, even if it is on the road. Look for some of the veterans to get a day off for a day game after night game. I like the way the bench players have been going this season, so I don’t expect much of a drop off.
