With Memorial Day signifying the start of summer, June brings us some interesting match-ups and more interleague play. Here are some of the things I’m looking forward to this month:

The Mets schedule starts the month of June in San Diego. Actually, the Mets are IN San Diego for Memorial Day May 31st. San Diego, being a huge naval base to the Pacific Fleet, is an appropriate choice to spend Memorial Day and a great way for us Mets fans to brush up on our history.

There will be a Midway Memorial Day Tribute at Petco Park as part of a special pregame tribute to the military and the USS Midway as well as a fireworks show after the game. I hope the Padres wear their military themed uniforms. I was always a huge fan of Adrian Gonzalez and always wanted the Mets to get him to play first base. Having Ike Davis, who is also homegrown, means this will never happen. After watching Ike play, I’m glad the Mets never made the attempt. Preview: Mets at Brewers May 28, 2010

New York Mets (25-23) at   Milwaukee Breweres (19-28) 8:10 pm

Johan Santana (4-2 3.41) vs Yovani Gallardo (4-2 3.20)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Jose Reyes are on fire and going for their sixth straight win tonight in Milwaukee. But the Mets are 6-14 on the road, only the Marniers have more losses on the road this season. Santana has put together four consecutive starts going at least 7 innings since getting bombed by the Phillies on May 2nd. The Brewers just won 2 of 3 from the Astros at home but are one of baseball’s worst teams this year with a .404 winning percentage. Gallardo has been more up than down this year but got hit pretty hard in his last start against the Twins. He gave up 4 ER in 6 IP.

Preview: Phillies at Mets May 27, 2010

Philadelphia Phillies (26-19) at (New York Mets (24-23)   7:10 pm

Cole Hamels (5-2 3.92) vs Mike Pelfrey (6-1 2.86)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are going for the sweep tonight against the Phils before they head to Milwaukee for the weekend. Hamels has been pitching really well. The Phils have won 7 of the 9 games he started. It should be a great pitching match up because Pelfrey has been pitching even better than Hamels. In his last two starts (both wins) he’s given up only 3 runs in 13.2 IP.

Preview: Phillies at Mets May 26, 2010

Philadelphia Phillies (26-18) at (New York Mets (23-23)   7:10 pm

Joe Blanton (1-2 5.06) vs Hisanori Takahashi (3-1 2.53)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for their fourth straight win tonight and a chance to go above .500. Takahashi threw 6 shutout innings in a loss to the Yankees in his last start. Blanton has been getting hit in his four starts this year. But the Phillies have won two of the four games. His last start was pretty good against the Cubs going 7 IP and giving up 3 ER.

Preview: Phillies at Mets May 25, 2010

Philadelphia Phillies (26-17) at (New York Mets (22-23)   7:10 pm

Jamie Moyer (5-3 4.30) vs R.A. Dickey (0-0 3.00)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Phillies come to town after losing two of three at home to the Red Sox. The Phils have won 5 of the 8 games Moyer started this season including a start in Philly against the Mets on May 2nd. In his career, he’s 9-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 23 starts against the Mets. Dickey made his first start against the Nationals on May 19th and it was decent. He went 6 IP and gave up 2 ER. We just have to hope that he can have some consistency in his starts. Over Dickey’s career, right-handed batters have hit him much harder than lefties (.322 BA to .263). Maybe he’ll be able to keep the Phillies’ big lefties down for a while.

Preview: Yankees at Mets May 23, 2010

New York Yankees (26-17) at (New York Mets (21-23)   8:05 pm

CC Sabathia (4-2 3.43) vs Johan Santana  (3-2 3.72)

TV: ESPN   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Yankees play the rubber game of the series. Sabathia has had a couple of starts this season that weren’t that great. And the Yankees have lost the last two games that he started. Santana has pitched extremely well in his last three starts but the Mets have lost two of three. It should be another good pitching match up tonight.
