http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got another great start from R.A. Dickey. He continues to surprise me with every start. I really thought he was a fluke. Tonight he threw a complete game 5- hitter and almost had a shutout, only giving up 1 run in the ninth.

The Mets offense lit up Zack Duke big time for 9 hits in 3.1 innings. They scored all 9 runs in the first four innings of the game. Carlos Beltran and Nick Evans homered in the game. Angel Pagan was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s as well.

The Mets take the first two of the four game series against the lowly Pirates. It looks like the Mets finally found a team they can match up with.

Phillies 8 – Mets 4 September 10, 2010

April 22 2010: Mets' relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia (32) delivers a pitch in the 9th inning during MLB action between the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Mets defeated the Cubs 5-2.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsIt was another disappointing start for Jenrry Mejia getting rocked by the Phillies for 6 runs in 4 innings. The Phils just put together hit after hit against him. And Ryan Howard crushed a line drive homer over the wall in left field. I haven’t seen an opposite field home run like that at Citi Field.

The Mets did have a little offense going with 10 hits and 4 runs. Carlos Beltran even hit his first home run of the year left-handed. Josh Thole was 3 for 4 but had a bonehead play on the bases getting caught in a run down between third and home.

The Mets drop the first game of the series.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets finally got something to cheer about. Dillon Gee had an incredible first Major League start going 7 strong inning and only allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He didn’t allow a hit until the sixth when Willie Harris took him deep to right. He was cruising only throwing 86 pitches through the 7 innings. It was an extremely impressive start and I’m intrigued to see more.

The Mets jumped ahead early on an Ike Davis 3-run homer in the first inning. Overall, the Mets still only had 6 hits and 2 walks as a team continuing their putrid performance offensively this season.

The Mets even up the series in Washington and play an early rubber game tomorrow at 12:35.

Apr 13, 2010 - Denver, Colorado, USA - MLB Baseball - New York Mets reliever JENRRY MEJIA throws during a 3-11 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsJenrry Mejia made his first career big league start and it was a major disappointment. He didn’t get bombed but he didn’t look good either. He had Mike Nickeas catching for him in his Major League debut and the two of them looked befuddled. They should have had Henry Blanco catching for Mejia to keep him in check. Mejia threw way too many breaking balls and change-up’s for a 20 year old power pitcher. I was scratching my head wondering what they’re thinking about calling pitches.

The Mets offense was incredibly weak again with only 6 hits and 3 walks especially on a day when the wind was blowing out at Wrigley. The only notable games were from Carlos Beltran (3 for 4, SB) and Ike Davis (2 for 4, HR). Other than that it was a continuation of one of the saddest offenses in baseball.

The Mets drop the second game and lose the series in Chicago. Tomorrow they’ll be trying to avoid the sweep again. What else would you expect?

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe big news is that Johan Santana left the game after the fifth inning with a strained pectoral muscle. He was cruising along pretty well too only allowing 1 run. I’m sure we’ll hear more about how serious it is over the coming days. With the expanded roster and no postseason hopes, Santana may not be seen again until next spring training.

The bullpen did a nice job of holding the Braves to 1 unearned run over the final four innings. Speaking of unearned runs, Joaquin Arias looked pretty shaky at shortstop tonight making one error and another poor throw that could have been a second error.

The offense had 8 hits and 3 walks generating the 4 runs which is an explosion for this sad bunch. David Wright hit a solo homer off Tim Hudson, his 22nd of the season. And Carlos Beltran hit a triple and scored on an overthrow. He still looks like he lost step or two even though he was able to leg out a triple.

The Mets avoid the embarrassment of a sweep by taking the final game of the four game series.

The Mets continue to fold up like a tent in Atlanta. Even with some of the young guys in the lineup like Lucas Duda, there’s just no life and not nearly enough talent on the this team to compete with the Braves. Mike Pelfrey got hit for 4 runs in the first two innings and you could have turned the game off then. It was over.

The Mets sad offense only mustered 2 hits and 2 walks in the game. The Mets finally scored their lone run in the eighth inning on a walk by Ike Davis and RBI single by Luis Hernandez. The offense is one of the ugliest I can remember from this team.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets season slipped away and it looked like they were just going through the motions tonight. Jon Niese wasn’t sharp at all allowing 8 runs (3 earned) in 4.2 innings. He gave up 10 hits and there are no excuses for that. But Luis Castillo let a double play ball go under his glove for an error with no outs in the fifth inning that could have made a big difference in the how the Braves 7 run inning turned out. David Ross hit a grand slam in the inning to cap the loss.

The Mets weak offense only mustered 7 hits and 3 walks in the game without Angel Pagan playing because of a sore wrist. They scored both runs in the fifth on a hit and three walks plus two sac flies. That was it for the night. The only good news was that Ruben Tejada went 2 for 4. He wasn’t the automatic out that he has been for most of the season in the bigs.

The Mets have two more games in Atlanta before heading to Chicago as they play out the string.
