Mark Hale of the Post reports that Jimmy Rollins and Billy Wagner are still jawing about the upcoming season series.

Pedro goes against the Tigers in PSL tomorrow making his first start of the spring. It’ll be interesting to see how many innings he’ll pitch. I would guess it’ll be three. The norm has been two innings for pitchers making their first start and the Mets have always been especially cautious with Pedro. There are only two weeks left until opening day so I hope that they give Pedro a longer leash if he’s feeling good.

Charlie Nobles of the Times reports that Castillo felt good today after playing in his first game of the spring. He had off season surgery on his right knee. He appeared to be hobbling around after his mid-season trade from the Twins last year.
Carlos Delgado hit a home run today. Hopefully, his spring slump will come to an end soon. It would be difficult to watch the Mets cleanup hitter go through another dreadful season like he had last year. He’s always been a streaky hitter throughout his career. Maybe the streak will start going in the right direction.

I was disappointed to read Charlie Nobles’ column in the Times today about Scott Schoenweiss. The interview is filled with excuses about his deplorable performance last season. He has excuses about injuries from 2005 and getting down on himself because the fans and media were tough on him.
I don’t buy any of his excuses and I felt insulted as a fan while reading this article. This is professional sports, it’s not a game being played for fun. We’re playing to win, Scott! So if a player is on the field, he can’t have any excuses. If you’re injured, go to the trainers room. If you’re hurt by fans and media that are tough on you, go play in Tampa or Pittsburgh. Maine has looked good this spring and appears to be building on last years 15-win season. Bart Hubbach has a good column in today’s edition of the Post.
Maine has pitched 10 consecutive scoreless innings now and has a 2.63 ERA this spring. As I’ve said before in my posts “Don’t get too excited about spring training performances”. But I think Maine has a chance to have a very good, long career in baseball. I like his calm demeanor and his stuff is above average. I can’t remember seeing him look rattled on the mound. Ken Davidoff of Newsday breaks down the Mets roster. He says that he doesn’t see a trade coming to replace Alou in left, but suggests getting Kevin Millar from the Orioles to play some first base. I don’t agree with either point. The Mets need someone flexible enough to play left and first with some right-handed hitting power.
