The Long Lost Yankees Mascot

Apr. 16, 2010 - Bronx, United States - epa02120470 Fans stand in the rain during a weather delay of the game between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, USA, 16 April 2010.

Time for an interesting Yankees fact before the second and final Subway Series of 2010.

Very interesting information I found on “Big League Stew” a Yahoo sports blog, and also tweeted by George Steinbrenner on twitter, conveniently before Part 2 of the Subway Series. The Yankees did have a mascot! Blasphemy! Check out the Video.

How many of you know Yankees Fans? I know quite a few and Yankees fans will all state that the Yankees don’t need a mascot. That’s beneath them. Continue reading “The Long Lost Yankees Mascot”

Video: Johan Santana Post-Game June 15, 2010

Here’ some video from ESPN of Johan Santana meeting with reporters in the locker room after getting the win against the Indians. It certainly wasn’t the best game he pitched recently, giving up 4 runs over 7 innings, but the Mets owed him some good run support.

You can read the game recap from last night and see the box score link at the bottom of the post.

Video: Ty Wigginton On Mets

ESPN caught up with Ty Wigginton to talk about his days with the Mets and David Wright taking over third base from him. Wiggy was with the Mets from 2002 until he was traded to the Pirates in 2004 for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger. Did you know the Mets threw in Jose Bautista in that trade, the current MLB home run leader for Toronto?

Video: Baby Phillies Fan Drinking Beer

They start ’em young in Philly. Check out this grainy video taken from a Phillies-Padres game this week. It’s quick, but the kid appears to be taking a swig from a beer bottle. Nice.

The Phillies spokeswoman Bonnie Clark said the team hasn’t been able to identify the kid or the adults sitting near him.

Mets GM Omar Minaya addressed the media before last night’s game to talk about a flurry of roster moves the Mets made and the one that will be made today. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Gary Matthews – designated for assignment and will go home to count his money
  • Luis Castillo- on the 15-day disabled list for his bad foot/gimpy legs
  • Ruben Tejada- re-called to play second base
  • Omir Santos- re-called because Henry Blanco is slightly hurt
  • Jon Niese- starting tomorrow and they need to find a roster spot but Oliver Perez won’t leave

Carlos Beltran also played in an extended spring training game but didn’t run. So he’s starting to work his way back.

Video: Kendry Morales Walk Off Homer- Broken Leg

Kendry Morales of the Los Angeles Angels hit a walk off grand slam to beat the Mariners in 10 innings today. During the celebration Morales broke his leg at home plate. It’s a very strange, and sad, event for a very good player. I’m sure this will have repercussions around the league that teams mandate what kind of celebrations players can engage in.
