Giants 7 – Mets 6 May 3, 2011

The Mets and Giants went back and forth exchanging the lead throughout the game. R.A. Dickey wasn’t very sharp at all again. He went 6 innings and gave up 6 runs. He hasn’t looked like the guy that was unstoppable last season.

The Mets had some good offense going tonight with 11 hits and leaving 11 runners on base. They put up 6 runs, which should be enough to win most games. Jose Reyes and Josh Thole both had 3 hits. And Carlos Beltran had a big 3-run homer down the line in right field in the first inning. At that point I was thinking things were looking good for the Mets. But Dickey couldn’t hold it.

Taylor Buchholz gave up a solo shot in the tenth inning to Aubrey Huff to lose the game. The other story line to mention was Thole having trouble getting his glove on the ball. He had a throwing error but just holding onto the ball was a struggle for him. It isn’t easy with a knuckleballer on the mound but he has some work to do.

Preview: Giants at Mets May 3, 2011

San Francisco Giants (13-15) at New York Mets (12-16) 7:10pm

Ryan Vogelsong (1-0 1.74) vs. R.A. Dickey (1-3 3.82)

TV:SNY    Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The World Series champion Giants are in town for three games starting tonight and they’re playing almost as badly as the Mets are. They just lost three of four games in DC. Vogelsong has come out of the bullpen and is making his second start of the season. He had a pretty good start in Pittsburgh and got his first big league win in six years on April 28.

Dickey’s last start was a no decision in DC when went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The Mets are 2-3 when Dickey starts this season.

Preview: Mets at Phillies May 1, 2011

New York Mets (11-16) at Philadelphia Phillies (18-8) 8:05pm

Chris Young (1-0 2.65) vs. Cliff Lee (2-2 4.18)

TV:ESPN    Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Phillies play their second straight national TV game as the Mets try to avoid the sweep in Philly. It won’t be easy against Lee but the D-Backs did get to him in his last start for 4 runs over 7 innings.

Young has made one start since coming off the disabled list with bicep tendinitis. He was shaky in DC going 4.2 innings and allowing 3 runs. He seemed to run out of gas in the fourth and fifth innings but should be in better shape after being back for nearly a week.

I’ll be doing a Mets fan pre-game show tonight live streaming with Kerel Cooper of On The Black. It’s a completely interactive show, so join us to talk about the topics you’re interested in with other Mets fan. The show is scheduled to start at 7pm Eastern time and you can see and join the show at the MetsReport.com page at Ustream TV.

Join us at 7pm Eastern time for the Mets fan pre-game show before the Mets-Phillies Sunday Night Baseball game tonight. I’ll be co-hosting with Kerel Cooper of On The Black and we’re planning a great interactive show.

The Mets are sporting a three game losing streak and face Cliff Lee tonight in Philly. They haven’t faced Lee since 2009 and he only had one start but he went 7 innings and didn’t allow an earned run.

The live streaming pre-game show is completely interactive. Audience members can chat and we’ll address topics that the audience brings up. Unlike the SNY pre-game show, we can address topics like the Mets financial situation and the reports that the Mets are having a hard time selling a minority stake in the team.

You can watch and join the show below when we go live at 7pm Eastern time.

New York Mets (11-15) at Philadelphia Phillies (17-8)  1:10pm

Jon Niese (1-3 5.10) vs. Roy Halladay (3-1 2.41)

TV:Fox            Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets will have a tough time trying to shake off their embarrassing loss last night against Halladay. He was vintage in his last start against the Padres going 8.2 innings and allowing 1 run with 14 K’s.

Niese also had a good start his last time out against the D-Backs going 7 innings and only allowing 2 runs for his first win of the season. He has 4 career starts against Philly for a 1-2 record with a 3.96 ERA. In Philly, he’s 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA.

The Mets got rocked in this game even worse than the score indicates. They were down 10-0 going into the ninth inning. Ike Davis and Jason Pridie hit homers in the ninth to make it somewhat respectable. Mike Pelfrey looked decent after overcoming a nasty flu but lost it in the fourth and fifth innings and ended up allowing 4 runs in 4.1 innings.

Dillon Gee had a bad debut out of the bullpen too. Ryan Howard ripped a grand slam off Gee for his second homer of the game. It was ugly all the way around for the Mets tonight.

Preview: Mets at Phillies April 29, 2011

New York Mets (11-14) at Philadelphia Phillies (16-8)  7:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (1-2 7.23) vs. Joe Blanton (0-1 5.92)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets already lost a series in Philly in the first week of the season. Pelfrey had his worst start of the season in that series, and that’s saying something. He only went 2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs.

The Phillies are just half a game behind the Rockies for the best record in baseball. They’re coming off a west coast road trip where they swept four games in San Diego and then lost two of three to Arizona. Blanton has pitched really well in his last two starts after a rough beginning to the season. He’s only allowed 4 runs in 14 innings in his last two starts.
