Mets 10 – Nationals 7 May 20, 2010

New York Mets starting pitcher John Maine delivers a pitch to the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati Mets finally got some offense for a change but the game started with a bizarre episode involving John Maine. He threw 5 pitches to the first batter and got pulled from the game. His fastball was at 85 mph and it looked like something was wrong. He and Jerry Manuel argued in the dugout. Maine appeared to have wanted to stay in the game.

Raul Valdes was warming up right from the start of the game. So the Mets knew something was wrong with Maine. Valdes did an unbelievable job going 5 innings and giving up 3 runs. You can’t ask for a better long relief job than Valdes did tonight. I was really impressed.

On offense the Mets put up 15 hits and only had 3 strikeouts. Talk about a turnaround! Jason Bay and Ike Davis both had 3 hits and Rod Barajas had a home run, his 10th of the season. David Wright even got in on the act with a bases clearing double in the first inning.

The Mets head home to face the Yankees this weekend.

Marlins 7 – Mets 5 May 15, 2010

New York Mets' Jason Bay sits in the dugout following their loss in their MLB National League baseball game against the Florida Marlins in Miami Mets lost their fourth straight game and six of seven. John Maine regressed tonight with a terrible start. He walked the first three batters of the game without throwing a strike. He was lucky to get out of the first inning only giving up 3 runs on 40 pitches. You knew it was going to be a long night right from the start. He finished up going 5 IP and gave up 6 ER raising his ERA to 6.13.

The offense was switched up with Jose Reyes going back to leadoff and Angel Pagan hitting third. It paid some early dividends with the team having 13 hits and scoring 5 runs. Reyes was 2 for 5 hitting leadoff.

The offense wasn’t enough to make up for Maine’s awful start. It’s really become a sorry looking team over the last week.

Mets 5 – Reds 4 May 4, 2010

MLB: New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers was a really good game on several levels. First, it was just a close game that went down to the ninth inning. Second, John Maine had a solid start going 6 innings and giving up only 1 ER.

Maine looked good throughout the game even though he didn’t have the velocity that he’s had in past seasons. I think we just need to get used to that. The low to mid-90’s heater just isn’t there anymore. Tonight he was getting the Reds hitter fishing at the high fastball though. We haven’t seen that consistently in quite a while

The Mets put up 8 hits including a 2 for 4 night from Jose Reyes, who also had a double and an RBI. David Wright also had a huge bomb in the the fourth inning that hit the second deck in left field. But the offensive hero of the game was Rod Barajas. He hit his seventh homer of the season in the ninth off Francisco Cordero to break the tie and win the game.

The Mets break their three game losing streak and try to win the series tomorrow afternoon.
