Hisanori Takahashi (7-3 4.15) vs Matt Cain (6-8 3.34)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets have a tough road to even this four game series after dropping the first two. Doing it against Cain might be a good chance. For his career, he’s 3-3 with a 4.26 ERA against the Mets. He’s on a bad stretch right now giving up 21 runs in his last four starts. Takahashi hasn’t started a game since July 4 and I don’t have a lot of confidence in his ability to get past the fifth inning.

Jon Niese (6-3 3.61) vs Barry Zito (7-4 3.76)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to even up the series at a game apiece tonight. Niese has pitched well in his last three starts. Although he took a loss to Cincinnati in his last start. Zito has been up and down this season but it’s definitely his best season since coming to San Francisco in 2007.

Mets 2010 Second Half Begins on West Coast

Tim Lincecum

With the first half of the season now a thing of the past, the Mets will start their second half quest to the pennant on the West coast for 11 games. They’ll be in San Francisco for four, Arizona for three, and back to California for four against the Dodgers. Here are some keys to each series I’ll be paying close attention to.

San Francisco 7/15-7/18
Expect pitching, pitching, and more pitching… And also the return of Carlos Beltran. The Mets will be facing a formidable quartet of Giants pitchers in the spacious confines of AT&T Park. Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain are as good a 1-2 punch as there is in the league at the top of any rotation. With that said, I’m confident in the Mets starters not only because the Giant lineup is far from imposing, but because the rotation proved themselves to be stingy in the first half. I foresee a series where Jerry Manuel’s strategic make-up will be tested, and a lot of “small” ball being executed. Like all Met fans are, I’m anxious to see Beltran back on the field, but my expectations are low, seeing as how it took Jose Reyes so long to adjust to the speed of the Major Leagues upon his return in April.

Arizona 7/19-7/21
The Mets are going to have to bring the lumber to the desert when they take on the D-Back’s for a three game set. Although the big bats of Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds can change the tide of a game with one swing, The Arizona pitching staff is about as effective as John Daley after 12 cold ones on the 15th hole. They are worst in the NL in ERA and earned runs allowed. The Mets have proven to be capable of coming from behind this season, so the lineup should be able to touch up the D-Back bullpen in the later frames if they fall behind. In addition, the Mets historically play really well at Chase Field. I’m expecting an abundance of offensive output in this series from the Met lineup. We’ll also see two players who are attracting a lot of attention on the trade market in RHP Dan Haren and left-hand hitting 2B Kelly Johnson. New York Mets (48-40) at San Francisco Giants (47-41) 10:15 pm

R.A. Dickey (6-2 2.77) vs Tim Lincecum (9-4 3.16)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Giants start up a four game series tonight in San Fran. The Giants have won 7 of their last 9 games. But Lincecum has two of his last three starts. The Mets have lost the last three games that Dickey started after his incredible beginning to his season on May 19 when he joined the big league roster.

Giants 6 – Mets 5 May 9, 2010

MLB: Dodgerss vs Mets APR 27

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsThe game started out with an utterly embarrassing performance by Oliver Perez. And that’s saying something! Perez only made it through 3.1 IP giving up 2 hits, 7 walks, and 1 HBP. He was lucky to only give up 3 ER’s.

The Mets made a nice comeback in the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead. Jason Bay had 2 hits including a severely wind-helped double to score 2 runs in the seventh.

Jenry Mejia blew the game in the eighth giving up a 2 run homer to Aaron Rowand.

David Wright had a horrendous 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts. He capped it off by getting thrown out in the ninth for arguing a third strike call.

The Mets still win the series and the Nats are coming to town tomorrow night.

San Francisco Giants (17-12) at New York Mets (17-13)   1:10 pm

Tim Lincecum (4-0 1.70) vs Oliver Perez (0-2 4.05)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: After two dramatic wins, the Mets have a chance to sweep the Giants this afternoon. It won’t be easy though. The pitching appears to be a mismatch in the Giant’s favor. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Lincecum is up against Perez. Lincecum is pitching brilliantly again this year. And Perez is… well, he’s Perez. Although he hasn’t pitched terribly, Jerry Manuel has a very quick hook with him.

San Francisco Giants (17-11) at New York Mets (16-13)   1:10 pm

Todd Wellemeyer (1-3 5.55) vs Johan Santana (3-2 4.50)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Hopefully, the Mets can keep the momentum going this afternoon against the Giants after last night’s walk-off homer by Rod Barajas. This should be an interesting game for Santana. He was torched for 10 runs in 3.2 IP in his last start in Philly, his worst start as a Mets player and probably ever. If he doesn’t bounce back with a good start today, we need to hit the panic button that something is really wrong. Wellemeyer’s last start at home against Philly was excellent. He went 7 IP giving up 2 ER and got the win. After that he relived Jonathan Sanchez in Colorado and threw 3 IP of scoreless relief.
