The Mets couldn’t get much offense going against Clayton Kershaw. They only had 8 hits and 4 walks in the game and left 10 on base. Only Jose Reyes had an extra base hit for the Mets, another triple that scored Daniel Murphy in the bottom of the ninth.

R.A. Dickey was decent but not outstanding again going 7 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. He did allow 10 hits and 2 walks so he had trouble going throughout the game.

The Mets won the series despite the loss today and head to Colorado for a three game series.

The Mets lost their fifth of six games and were totally outclassed by Tim Lincecum. The Giants don’t hit much but they don’t need it when Lincecum is pitching. He went 7 innings and had 12 strikeouts. The Mets did leave 9 runners on base, so they had some chances that they couldn’t capitalize on. But between Lincecum and four relievers the Mets struck out an astounding 16 times tonight.

Chris Capuano had a really nice start tonight going 6.1 innings and allowing 2 runs. He looked good even though he allowed 8 hits and 3 walks. He was focused with runners on base and was really into the game. It was a solid start.

The Mets didn’t have much offense to talk about. Carlos Beltran and Ronny Paulino each had 2 hits but the team only managed 6 hits in the game.

The seats were almost completely empty and you could hear the “Let’s Go Giants” chants on the SNY broadcast. It’s a sad day when a west coast team is getting more support at Citi Field than the Mets.

The Mets and Giants went back and forth exchanging the lead throughout the game. R.A. Dickey wasn’t very sharp at all again. He went 6 innings and gave up 6 runs. He hasn’t looked like the guy that was unstoppable last season.

The Mets had some good offense going tonight with 11 hits and leaving 11 runners on base. They put up 6 runs, which should be enough to win most games. Jose Reyes and Josh Thole both had 3 hits. And Carlos Beltran had a big 3-run homer down the line in right field in the first inning. At that point I was thinking things were looking good for the Mets. But Dickey couldn’t hold it.

Taylor Buchholz gave up a solo shot in the tenth inning to Aubrey Huff to lose the game. The other story line to mention was Thole having trouble getting his glove on the ball. He had a throwing error but just holding onto the ball was a struggle for him. It isn’t easy with a knuckleballer on the mound but he has some work to do.

The Mets got rocked in this game even worse than the score indicates. They were down 10-0 going into the ninth inning. Ike Davis and Jason Pridie hit homers in the ninth to make it somewhat respectable. Mike Pelfrey looked decent after overcoming a nasty flu but lost it in the fourth and fifth innings and ended up allowing 4 runs in 4.1 innings.

Dillon Gee had a bad debut out of the bullpen too. Ryan Howard ripped a grand slam off Gee for his second homer of the game. It was ugly all the way around for the Mets tonight.

The Mets six game winning streak finally came to an end tonight in a close game in DC. The Mets offense was inexplicably stymied by Livan Hernandez for 8 innings. He only allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs. The Mets made a nice comeback attempt against Drew Storen in the ninth but it wasn’t enough.

Chris Capuano had a very shaky start and isn’t showing that he can consistently give a solid starting effort. He allowed 10 hits and 4 runs over 5.2 innings. Pedro Beato had another fantastic effort going 2 scoreless innings and still hasn’t allowed a run this season.

The Mets head to Philly for a three game series starting tomorrow night.

The Mets won the series with tonight’s exciting late inning finish. R.A. Dickey was really solid going 6.2 innings and allowing only 2 runs. He gave up 8 hits and 1 walk so he was working around trouble frequently. But it was a good sign that he kept the walks to a minimum tonight.

The excitement started in the eighth inning when Daniel Murphy hit a pinch hit solo shot to tie the game at 2-2. Then the Mets had some sloppy fielding by Murphy, who stayed in the game at second base, and by Josh Thole allowing a passed ball. Those two miscues allowed the Nats to score a run on Wilson Ramos’ sac fly.

In the ninth, the Mets scored 4 runs highlighted by Murphy’s 2-run double. It was an exciting finish and showed that the Mets won’t roll over late in the game when they’re down.

The Mets won their fifth game in a row on their first game of a road trip to DC. Chris Young came back from the disabled list to somewhat of a shaky start. He only got through 4.2 innings allowing 3 solo home runs including two of those to Wilson Ramos. Young only allowed 4 hits and 2 walks but started getting pretty wild in the fifth inning. It was definitely time for him to get pulled.

The Mets offense was particularly impressive in scoring their 6 runs in four different innings. They had 12 hits and 1 walk in the game and kept stringing hits together. There was a big surprise in the second inning when Young laid down a safety squeeze scoring Ike Davis. I was so surprised that I thought it might have been a busted play with Davis making an unplanned dash for home.

Davis had 3 more hits in the game including a double to raise his average to .338 and Josh Thole put up 3 RBI’s in the game to lead the offense.

The streaking Mets go for the series win tomorrow night in DC.
