The Mets offense really pounded the Twins pitchers with 14 hits and 1 walk. They had 3-hit games from Jesus Feliciano, David Wright, and Jeff Francoeur. Most of their scoring was from three home runs by Wright, Francoeur, and Ike Davis. Francoeur was a triple away from the cycle today too.

Johan Santana Struggles as Twins Fans Watch A Pavano Win

David Daniels CitiField

If ever there was one game I could pick to attend this year based on entertainment value alone, Saturday’s game was the one I wanted to see. Johan Santana against Carl Pavano. Interleague play. So I packed up my bag, hit stubhub and went down the block for a visit. Here’s what I saw…

Old Ace Against Former Team

There were quite a few Minnesota fans wearing Santana’s Jersey from his Twins days. They were there to see their team take on their old Ace. I’m sure all Twins fans are secretly laughing at how this deal turned out, especially after the first inning.

Pavano Comes Back to NY

Pavano had always been my favorite target when bringing up “great” Yankees. Carl Pavano is one huge sore spot for any Yankee fan and I remind Yankee fans of this fact whenever I can. Now my gut feeling was he would turn around and show NY just what they were missing. He will always have something to prove when coming to NY. He did just that with a 3 hit, complete game shutout and also went 2 for 3 at the plate.

There were also plenty of Minnesota fans who were sporting the new “stache” that Pavano has grown a la Keith Hernandez. Continue reading “Johan Santana Struggles as Twins Fans Watch A Pavano Win”

Mets 5 – Twins 2 June 25, 2010

June 13, 2010: David Wright for the New York Mets in action during an interleague game against the hometown Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. The Mets completed the 3-game sweep by beating the Orioles 11 - 4.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got another solid start tonight from Mike Pelfrey despite the fact that he didn’t seem to be at his best again. That’s the sign of him maturing. He went 6 IP and gave up only 2 runs. Pelfrey gave up a leadoff home run to Denard Span and gave up 6 hits but didn’t walk anyone.

The Mets offense really capitalized on their opportunities. They had 7 hits and 1 walk. David Wright had a big game going 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI’s, and a solo home run to right field. His average is up to .298 for the season and he now has 59 RBI’s.

The Mets stay hot at home and have a chance to take another series this weekend.

Tigers 6 – Mets 5 June 24, 2010

June 06 2010: Mets' starting pitcher Hisanori Takahashi (47) gets ready to deliver a pitch during MLB action between the New York Mets and the Florida Marlins at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. The Mets beat the Marlins 7-6.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets recovered from a terrible start by Hisanori Takahashi to make a game of it tonight and almost got the sweep. Takahashi went 4 IP and gave up 6 ER. He didn’t have good control all night and wasn’t getting any close calls from the umpire either. Maybe this will open the door for John Maine or Oliver Perez to get back into the rotation at some point.

The Mets offense was pretty solid with 10 hits and 3 walks. Jesus Feliciano went 3 for 5 with 2 runs. They had the bases loaded in the seventh inning with 2 outs and down by 1 run, but David Wright struck out and Ike Davis flied out to end the rally.

The Mets take two of three from the Tigers. Not a bad series at all.

May 25, 2010 - New York, United States - epa02173153 New York Met Pitcher R.A. Dickey pitches in the fourth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies, in Flushing New York, USA, 25 May 2010.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsTonight’s game was defined by another outstanding start by R.A. Dickey. He went 8 IP and only gave up 4 hits and 0 runs. The Tigers couldn’t do anything against him. It’s incredible that he keeps this run going.

Also, Angel Pagan left the game in the fifth inning with a muscle spasm. Hopefully, he won’t be out for too long. He’s been playing so well this year.

The Mets offense was solid with 8 hits and 4 walks. Jose Reyes was 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 1 RBI, just a double short of the cycle. Ike Davis was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.

The Mets are on fire at home and go for the sweep tomorrow night against the Tigers.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets lost the rubber game of the series behind Johan Santana. Mark Teixeira hit a third inning grand slam and that was all they would need. Santana ended up pitching 6 innings and giving up the 4 runs but he gave up 8 hits and a walk. So there were runners on frequently. It looked like Santana was laboring to get outs.

The offense just couldn’t get anything going against Sabathia today. They only had 4 hits and 2 walks. No player had more than 1 hit in the game.

The Mets drop 2 of 3 to even the season series with the Yankees 3-3 and finish a highly successful road trip at 7-2.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets finally lost in their eighth game of the road trip. It’s been an incredible run over the last week and a half. Mike Pelfrey gave up 2-run homers to Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson plus a run on a an infield ground ball in the first. His velocity was excellent but he just wasn’t fooling anyone today. The sinker and splitter weren’t moving as much as they normally do. Pelfrey takes the loss but got through 7 innings and gave up all 5 runs for the Yankees.

The Mets didn’t get the big offense that they’ve been getting on their recent run. They got 6 hits and 3 walks. All 3 runs were scored on Jose Reyes home runs. He led off the game with a homer and hit a 2-run shot in his second at-bat. That was it for the scoring. Angel Pagan had another nice game at the plate going 2 for 3 with a double. Oddly, he was caught stealing for the second straight game.

The Mets and Yankees will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow at Yankee Stadium.
