http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsAnother Mets home stand, another successful Mets home stand.

The Mets swept the pesky Marlins to start off the festivities at home, and then took two of three from the surprise team of the National League, the San Diego Padres.

Friday, June 4th: Marlins 3, Mets 4
Saturday, June 5th: Marlins 1, Mets 6
Sunday, June 6th: Marlins 6, Mets 7
Tuesday, June 8th: Padres 1, Mets 2 (11)
Thursday, June 10th: Padres 4, Mets 2 (Game 1), Padres 0, Mets 3 (Game 2)

The Mets had something to prove in the first series of this home stand, as they were facing a Marlins team which had owned the Mets so far in 2010, holding a 6-1 record when facing the Metropolitans.

The Mets won a nail-biter 4-3 on Friday night, thanks in part to Hanley Ramirez not running hard on a ground ball which could have tied the game had he gotten to first base in time. The following afternoon, Jon Niese returned from a hamstring injury and pitched brilliantly, allowing just one run in seven innings.

The series finale didn’t look good for New York, as they were down 5-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. A 3-run 6th and 7th would tie the game at 6-6, and then Ike Davis would serve up a game-winning RBI groundout in the 8th inning. Continue reading “Mets Home Stand Review: June 4-10, 2010”

Mets 3 – Padres 0 June 10, 2010

Apr. 19, 2010 - Flushing Meadows, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES - epa02124425 The Mets' Jonathon Niese pitches during the fourth inning of the game between the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows, New York, USA, on 19 April 2010.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got a complete game 1-hit shutout from Jon Niese to win the series. The only hit for the Padres was a double by Chris Denorfia in the third inning. Niese was that close to a perfect game. He was completely cruising through this one.

The Mets had some decent offense going too with 8 hits and 3 walks. Jose Reyes was 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 SB (15th of the season). Ike Davis was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jesus Feliciano made his debut and went 0 for 4.

This game also had another interesting play. The Padres pulled off an around the horn triple play on a Ruben Tejada ground ball to third.

The Mets win the home series and hit the road to Baltimore for the weekend.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets came out on top of this one in 11 innings on a solo shot way out into the Pepsi porch by Ike Davis. That was a jump out of your seat moment but Mike Pelfrey was outstanding again through 9 innings. He only gave up 5 hits, 1 run, and no walks, with 6 strikeouts. It’s a shame that it went to extras and he didn’t get the win or complete game.

Other than Davis’ big blast to win it, the Mets as a team had 9 hits and 1 walk. David Wright was 2 for 4 with a double and is up to a respectable .283 avg. now. Angel Pagan was 2 for 5 with a triple and a stolen base. He continues to make plays every single day. And Jose Reyes was 2 for 4 with a big home run to left field to tie it in the seventh. The home run barely made it out and was reviewed. It was initially called a in play but after review it was ruled a home run.

These kind of games are my favorites to watch. I love the pitching duels. Great way to start the home series against the Pads.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets finished off the sweep of the Marlins to pay them back for last month’s sweep in Miami. The good thing to see was the Mets coming back from down 5-0 in the sixth inning after another awful start from Hisanori Takahashi. He’s looking more and more like a long man coming out of the bullpen to start the more we see of him. He gave up two big bombs to Dan Uggla and Cody Ross and that was it for him.

The Mets comeback was brought on by something unusual for this team, late inning offense. They put up 12 hits and 6 walks but didn’t score a run before the sixth inning. David Wright was 3 for 5, Angel Pagan was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 1 SB, and the hot Jeff Francoeur 2 for 4 with a huge 3-run homer to tie it in the seventh.

It’s good to finally see a comeback win. We haven’t seen a lot of those over the last couple of seasons.

New York Mets Ike Davis hits a single at Citi Field in New York

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsMets starter Jon Niese was outstanding today in his return from two weeks on the disabled list with a hamstring strain. He went 7 innings only giving up 1 run in the seventh. He was in complete control throughout the game dropping his curveball in for strikes at will. Jenrry Mejia and Fernando Nieve finished off the final two innings without a serious threat by the Marlins.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 2 walks against the Marlins. Ike Davis was right on the ball today going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. David Wright was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s including his 10th home run of the season which equals his total from last season.

New York Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey throws a pitch to the Florida Marlins in New York

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsThe Mets got another decent start from R.A. Dickey. He seems to have a knack for getting through 6 innings without letting the game get away from him. He had a lot runners on base in his 6.1 IP tonight giving up 7 hits and 2 walks. But he didn’t let Marlins get out of control.

The offense was solid with 9 hits and 4 walks. You could even make an argument that Dickey was the offensive star going 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Ruben Tejada was back from the minors and immediately made a contribution going 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

K-Rod came into the ninth with a 1-run lead and made things interesting again. He gave up a hit and a walk but managed to work out of it to get his 11th save of the season.

Mets Road Trip Review: May 28th- June 2nd, 2010

Mets' Valdes walks off the field with Wright as Padres' Gonzalez rounds third in the 11th inning during their National League MLB in San Diego

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsGoing 5-1 against last year’s World Series contestants, the Yankees and the Phillies, made believers out of most people in Mets-land that they could ride that momentum into a good road trip.

Those people (including myself) were wrong.

The Mets went 2-4 on their six-game road trip, extending their season-long streak to nine straight road series without a series victory (0-7-2 on the season).
