Video: ESPN on Mets Jose Reyes Future

Here’s some video of Baseball Tonight’s Aaron Boone talking about the Mets future with Jose Reyes. He suggests trading Reyes for the long-term benefit of the team. Boone also goes on to suggest that the San Francisco Giants are a team that would be a great fit for Reyes.

I’ve always resisted the talk of a fire sale over the last couple of years. But I’m on board now. The long-term deals the Mets have in place are coming to a close for the most part. It’s time to start making some deals to re-stock the Mets for the future. They certainly don’t look like a team that’s going anywhere this year so they might as well try to bring in some young talent.

This week Kerel Cooper of On The Black and I talk about the Mets current four game winning streak. We talk about how we got here with strong starting pitching from Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, and Chris Capuano.

We also talk about Chris Young coming off the disabled list and the decision to keep Dillon Gee on the roster at the expense of D.J. Carrasco.

We update our thoughts on the Mets prospects for the season now that we’re nearly a month into the season.

Video: Mets Weekly Report- Losing, Doubleheaders, Pagan

There was so much to talk about this week. The Rockies and Braves with consecutive doubleheader beatings and the Rox sweeping the Mets at home. The Mets lack of fundamentals. We could go on and on.

Kerel Cooper of On The Black and I get fired up this week about the Mets losing ways. Terry Collins talks a lot about playing the game “the right way”. But it looks like that’s just talk because it isn’t the Mets playing the game the right way. The team has been one of the worst in recent memory at playing a smart game. Mental mistakes have been more frequent than physical errors.

We also talk about some of the worst performing Mets early this season like Angel Pagan and Mike Pelfrey. Check out the video below and post your comments.

In this week’s episode of the the Mets Weekly Report with Kerel Cooper of On The Black, we talk about the first week of games in Florida, Philly, and home against the Nationals. Specifically, we get into Mike Pelfrey getting boo’d during player introductions on opening day. Kerel was at the game and said that K-Rod got the loudest boo’s and then Pelf got plenty as well.

We also talk about an article in the Bergen Record this week that Terry Collins time may be short with the Mets. That may be true but can we give the guy more than a week before we start writing him off?

The last segment is about the under-performing pitching staff. Dan Warthen needs to get these guys going quickly. The Mets have the second worst team ERA in the National League. Only the Astros are worse.

Check out the video below and leave your comments on the state of the Mets this week.

Video: Mets Fans Thoughts on Opening Day

Here’s a good video from opening day 2011 by Dexter Henry of BackpackBroadcasting.com. He does a great job of capturing the mood and the thoughts of Mets fans about this season.

The fans are excited about opening day but have reservations about the team’s prospects for this season, as do I. Pretty much every fan I’ve talked to from my friends to people I work with are cautiously optimistic. I think everyone expects the Mets to be around .500 this season. Although I’ve talked to a few people that are expecting much more like frequent commenter here TD. He’s expecting around 88 wins this year.

Check out the video below and the link to Backpack Broadcasting above for some good videos on the local NY sports teams.

Video: Mets Terry Collins on First Road Trip of 2011

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - FEBRUARY 26: RY 26: Dav...

Mets manager Terry Collins reflects on the first road trip of the 2011 season. He’s talking to reporters after the Mets took an 11-0 beating from Roy Halladay and the Phillies. The Mets finished the road trip at 3-3 and showed some signs of life at times during the trip.

But the Mets also had two complete stinkers from Mike Pelfrey on the trip. Pelf also indicated that he didn’t like the pitch selection from Josh Thole in his second start in which Pelf couldn’t make it to the third inning. I also find it interesting when pitchers get rocked and blame it on the catcher. It doesn’t make any sense. If there’s any communication, that shouldn’t happen. Not to mention the fact that Pelf could have shaken him off at any time.

Video: Mets Weekly Report – Marlins, Beltran, and Phillies

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - FEBRUARY 24: RY 24: Mik...
Image by Getty Images via @daylife

In this week’s video, Kerel Cooper of On The Black and I talk about the Marlins series that the Mets just took in Miami. We talk about Carlos Beltran (and his knees), Mike Pelfrey’s poor start on Friday night, Willie Harris’ hot bat, and the upcoming series in Philly starting tomorrow.

The Mets will face Hamels, Blanton, and Halladay in Philly this week. That will be a good early season test of how the Mets offense stacks up against some solid pitching. Tomorrow will also be our first look at Chris Young in a regular season game. He goes right into the fire in Philly.

Check out the video below and comment with your thoughts.
