Video: Kendry Morales Walk Off Homer- Broken Leg

Kendry Morales of the Los Angeles Angels hit a walk off grand slam to beat the Mariners in 10 innings today. During the celebration Morales broke his leg at home plate. It’s a very strange, and sad, event for a very good player. I’m sure this will have repercussions around the league that teams mandate what kind of celebrations players can engage in.

New York Mets (25-24) at   Milwaukee Breweres (20-28) 7:10 pm

Fernando Nieve (1-2 5.09) vs Manny Parra (1-3 3.54)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need to take the next two games in Milwaukee to take the series from the worst home team in baseball. Nieve makes his first start of the year coming out of the bullpen. He’s already appeared in 27 of the Mets 49 games this season. Parra has only made one start this season in his 18 appearances, so this one is going to be the battle of the relievers. Expect both bullpens to be working early and often tonight.

Poll: Carlos Beltran Return from Injury in 2010?

After a 2009 season filled with injuries and disappointment, we were all ready to turn the page this season and move on. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to do that. Carlos Beltran, arguably the Mets best position player, had “unauthorized” knee surgery in January and still hasn’t returned 17 weeks later.

Beltran was scheduled to be out for 12 weeks of recovery but still hasn’t begun baseball activities to get ready to play. There has been rumor and innuendo that Beltran is dogging his rehab in preparation for his walk year in 2011. Maybe that’s true, who knows?

The latest news is that he’ll be back in July, at the earliest. That raises questions that I’d like to hear from you about. When do you think he’ll be back? A poll is embedded below.

Mets 2010 Schedule – Looking Ahead to June

San Diego, Calif. (Apr. 15, 2004) - The San Di...

With Memorial Day signifying the start of summer, June brings us some interesting match-ups and more interleague play. Here are some of the things I’m looking forward to this month:

The Mets schedule starts the month of June in San Diego. Actually, the Mets are IN San Diego for Memorial Day May 31st. San Diego, being a huge naval base to the Pacific Fleet, is an appropriate choice to spend Memorial Day and a great way for us Mets fans to brush up on our history.

There will be a Midway Memorial Day Tribute at Petco Park as part of a special pregame tribute to the military and the USS Midway as well as a fireworks show after the game. I hope the Padres wear their military themed uniforms. I was always a huge fan of Adrian Gonzalez and always wanted the Mets to get him to play first base. Having Ike Davis, who is also homegrown, means this will never happen. After watching Ike play, I’m glad the Mets never made the attempt. Brewers 2 – Mets 0 May 28, 2010

New York Mets starting pitcher Johan Santana prepares to pitch to a Milwaukee Brewers batter in the second inning of a MLB National League game in Milwaukee

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsThe game was defined by two great starting pitching performances. Johan Santana and Yovani Gallardo went toe-to-toe through eight scoreless innings. Gallardo made it through the ninth. But Ryota Igarashi gave up a 2 run walk off homer to Cory Hart in the bottom of the ninth.

Both Gallardo and Santana were really on tonight. It was a pleasure to watch until Igarashi gave it up in the ninth. The Mets didn’t have much offense. How much could there be in a scoreless game?

Rod Barajas and Santana had two hits apiece. That accounted for 4 of the team’s 8 hits.

It’s a disappointing way to lose but the Mets have been flying high this week and Santana was outstanding. The Brewers just got the best of them tonight. It happens.

New York Mets (25-23) at   Milwaukee Breweres (19-28) 8:10 pm

Johan Santana (4-2 3.41) vs Yovani Gallardo (4-2 3.20)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Jose Reyes are on fire and going for their sixth straight win tonight in Milwaukee. But the Mets are 6-14 on the road, only the Marniers have more losses on the road this season. Santana has put together four consecutive starts going at least 7 innings since getting bombed by the Phillies on May 2nd. The Brewers just won 2 of 3 from the Astros at home but are one of baseball’s worst teams this year with a .404 winning percentage. Gallardo has been more up than down this year but got hit pretty hard in his last start against the Twins. He gave up 4 ER in 6 IP.
