The Cubs took the series with a win today in Chicago as the Mets head home to face the Phillies this weekend. The story of this game is that R.A. Dickey was injured in the third inning running over to cover first base. He collapsed and was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury.

Pedro Beato and Pat Misch followed Dickey and both got smoked by the Cubs for a combined 7 runs in 2.1 innings and the game was over.

On offense, Daniel Murphy finally heated up on a chilly day going 3 for 4 and raising his season average to .261.

The Mets finally got the kind of start from R.A. Dickey that they’ve been looking for. He still didn’t look as sharp as he did last season but he certainly pitched well enough to get the job done. He went 6 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks. It was a great job against a solid Yankees lineup.

The Mets offense was pretty weak except for you know who… Justin Turner. This guy is on fire going 3 for 4 tonight with a big RBI double in the fourth inning. He’s hitting .364 and has an RBI in 6 straight games. Daniel Murphy chipped in with a solo homer in the sixth inning from the two hole to cap the scoring for the win.

The Mets looked pretty impressive against a good Yankees team. It’s great that this team with six guys that could be in Buffalo right now are playing some decent ball.

The Mets swept the two-game series and didn’t allow the offensively challenged Nats to score a run. Dillon Gee took a no-hitter to 5.2 innings and, of course, it was Livan Hernandez who broke it up with a single. The Mets got the final out on a disputed play at first base that appeared to pull Daniel Murphy off the base on a throw by Justin Turner.

Video: Mets Weekly Report – Dickey, Murphy, Beltran

R. A. Dickey

In this week’s video weekly Mets Report with Kerel Cooper of On The Black we first talk about R.A. Dickey and the disappointing season that he’s having. It’s only the middle of May but Dickey hasn’t won a game in more than a month. He signed a 2-year deal before the season but certainly isn’t living up to the expectations that the Mets had for him when they signed the deal.

We also get into Daniel Murphy playing first base with Ike Davis on the disabled list. Kerel asks if this is going to hurt Murphy’s defensive development at second base. He’s definitely made some strides defensively but Murphy is probably the best backup corner infielder on the team.

The last topic that we touch on is Carlos Beltran and the resurgent season that he’s having in the final year of his contract with the Mets. The timing is great for Beltran and the Mets if they’re planning to trade him, which you have to assume that the Mets are. Beltran does have a full no-trade clause but the Mets haven’t done anything yet this season to appear to make a run at the playoffs. So he would probably waive that clause for a chance to get into a playoff race. Maybe he could even do some major damage like he did with the Astros in the ’04 postseason.

R.A. Dickey continued his losing ways in Houston today. The dream season that he had last year is nowhere to be found. He blew the game in the first innings by giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and throwing 45 pitches. It was really ugly. He stayed in the game into the sixth finishing with 5.1 innings, 6 runs allowed on 11 hits and no walks.

There wasn’t a lot of offense from the Mets against J.A. Happ today. They had 7 hits and 4 walks as a team. Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer to right in the fourth inning. They strung together some hits to score one in the third and one in the ninth. That was it.

The Mets and Astros will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow afternoon.

The Mets couldn’t get much offense going against Clayton Kershaw. They only had 8 hits and 4 walks in the game and left 10 on base. Only Jose Reyes had an extra base hit for the Mets, another triple that scored Daniel Murphy in the bottom of the ninth.

R.A. Dickey was decent but not outstanding again going 7 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. He did allow 10 hits and 2 walks so he had trouble going throughout the game.

The Mets won the series despite the loss today and head to Colorado for a three game series.

The Mets won the series with tonight’s exciting late inning finish. R.A. Dickey was really solid going 6.2 innings and allowing only 2 runs. He gave up 8 hits and 1 walk so he was working around trouble frequently. But it was a good sign that he kept the walks to a minimum tonight.

The excitement started in the eighth inning when Daniel Murphy hit a pinch hit solo shot to tie the game at 2-2. Then the Mets had some sloppy fielding by Murphy, who stayed in the game at second base, and by Josh Thole allowing a passed ball. Those two miscues allowed the Nats to score a run on Wilson Ramos’ sac fly.

In the ninth, the Mets scored 4 runs highlighted by Murphy’s 2-run double. It was an exciting finish and showed that the Mets won’t roll over late in the game when they’re down.
