Mets Fan To Yankees – Please Sweep Us!

President Obama welcomes the New York Yankees baseball team to the White House

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsFor the first time in the history of the Subway Series I think to myself ‘Could the New York Yankees please put us out of our misery and sweep us?’

A sweep by the Yankees would go a long way towards putting the final nail in the coffin of the Omar Minaya era. Jerry Manuel can stay.

Will the Yankees help us? Can the Yankees actually hurt us by losing these games and leaving Omar’s job intact for the time being? That being said, the Yankees have already won this series before it even starts.

If the Mets sweep, we still lose because Omar will still be employed. If the Yankees sweep, we lose. If the Yankees win 2 out of 3, we lose. I just don’t see any winning scenarios here. Continue reading “Mets Fan To Yankees – Please Sweep Us!”

Yankees 2 – Mets 1 May 21, 2010

New York Mets starting pitcher Hisanori Takahashi throws a pitch to the New York Yankees in New York

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsI have to admit that I was shocked that Hisanori Takahashi had a great start going 6 shutout innings. I never would have expected that. He was really outstanding especially considering that he got no run support.

Speaking of run support, the Mets had absolutely no offense again. Last night’s 10 run outburst seems like a mirage. They only put together 4 hits as a team and two of them were in the ninth inning when Jason Bay singled and Ike Davis doubled him in. That was the offense. Don’t blink or you might miss it.

Alex Cora blew the game in the seventh inning for the Mets. His costly throwing error allowed an unearned run to score that would have made a difference in the game.

The Mets and Yankees will play two more on national TV this weekend.

Preview: Yankees at Mets May 21, 2010

New York Yankees (25-15) at (New York Mets (20-22)   7:10 pm

Javier Vazquez (2-4 8.01) vs Hisanori Takahashi (3-1 3.12)

TV: SNY, YES   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Yankees are playing well this season but just got swept in a two game series by the Rays. Vazquez hasn’t pitched very well at all this year after he was nearly untouchable last season with the Braves. Takahashi is making his first career start coming out of the bullpen.

Subway Series Still Does It For Me

Orlando Hernandez #26

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsA lot of people feel that the series between the cross-town rivals New York Mets and New York Yankees has lost some of its luster over the years. After all, The Mets and the Yankees play each other six times during the regular season and have played a World Series against each other back in 2000. Yet there is still something extra special when the Yankees and Mets take the field against each other.

It’s about bragging rights. It’s about your buddy at work who you have talked sports with all year long and argued who’s better and who you made a bet with resulting in whoever loses has to wear the other teams’ jersey to work the next Monday morning. It’s the $10 wagers you made with that same buddy that doesn’t mean much to you, but just to see his face hand it over makes your year. And for me it’s a little bit more than that. Mets Have Biggest 2010 Ticket Sales Drop

Florida Marlins at New York Mets

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsI wrote back at the end of April that the Mets were experiencing the largest drop in ticket sales this season among MLB teams. That was according to a report in Fanhouse. Since then, things have only gotten worse for the Mets according to the NY Times.

In April, sales were down an average of 6,690 tickets per game. Now they’re down 6,852 tickets per game. Things have gone completely into the toilet. If you’re on the Mets email list, you know how aggressive they’ve become this season trying to sell tickets. It’s become a daily event for them to email about some new ticket sales promotion. Mets-Yankees Tickets May 21-23 2010 On Sale

The Mets are putting some more tickets on sale this morning at 10am EDT for the Mets-Yankees series at Citi Field. It goes without saying that these were tickets that they held out from the single game ticket sales expecting them to be sold as part of season or partial season packages. That goes to show you just how few tickets sold this season. I would guess they were especially hard hit in the packages that they’re trying to sell.

The games are listed as:

Friday May 21 7:10pm SNY

Saturday May 22 7:10pm Fox

Sunday May 23 8:05pm ESPN

We’ve written before that they’re running a promotion that weekend too. It’s a cap trade promotion. And we’ve written that 2010 ticket sales are down this year. So it’s a good chance for all of us to get out and see the Mets take on the reigning World Series champs.

Mets Cap Trade Day – May 21-23 2010

I am looking ahead to the next few home series and I noticed something very interesting. May 21st – 23 the Yankees are in town. The Mets have some king of weird promotion called Mets cap trade day but the day is for the entire series. The first 5,000 fans at these three games will get a Mets cap. Being that it’s cap trade day are you supposed to trade in a Yankee cap for a Mets one?

If so, how many Yankee fans will be rushing to Citi Field for their free cap? How many Yankee fans will give up their Yankee caps for a Mets one? Will Yankee fans, proud fans of a team that are the defending World Series champions, expect to change allegiances because of a free Mets cap?

Promotion Fail. The person who thought up this promotion should go before Omar or Jerry. Continue reading “Mets Cap Trade Day – May 21-23 2010”
