R.A. Dickey had another tremendous game going 8 innings allowing 1 run. Even on a bad foot he was dealing. He only allowed 4 hits and 1 walk. The bullpen tried to give it back in the ninth but the Mets held on for the win and take the series from the Braves.

Manny Acosta gave up a walk and a double in the ninth. Terry Collins brought in K-Rod because he’d seen enough of Acosta in his first game back from Buffalo. K-Rod gave up a 3-run homer to the first batter he faced to make the score 6-4. But he struck out Chipper Jones to hold on for the win and get another game finished toward his vesting option.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 5 walks in the game. It was more of Jose Reyes tonight going 2 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI. He raised his season average to .337 and continues to be on fire.

Carlos Beltran left the game after fouling a ball off his right leg.

Atlanta Braves (32-27) at New York Mets (27-31) 8:05pm

Tim Hudson (4-4 3.75) vs. R.A. Dickey (2-6 4.39)

TV: ESPN              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Braves play the rubber game of the series on national TV tonight. Hudson has pitched pretty well this season but the Braves are 5-6 in games he started. In his last start in Atlanta he went 6 innings against the Padres and allowed only 1 earned run.

The Mets are 3-8 in Dickey’s starts this season. He pitched through a tough foot injury in his last start against the Pirates and went 7.2 innings allowing 3 runs. He took the loss but got no run support. He’s proving how tough he is pitching through this injury.

The Mets got a tremendous game from R.A. Dickey pitching on a bad foot. He threw 7 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts but got hit in the eighth inning for 3 runs. Doing it on an injured foot was just a great effort. He didn’t get any support from the offense and didn’t deserve a loss.

Bobby Parnell was back from the DL and looked just as bad, if not worse, than when he left. He got two outs in the ninth and it took him 32 pitches to do it. He gave up 2 runs but both were unearned because of a Ruben Tejada throwing error.

The Mets offense was awful with their tenth straight game without a home run. They only mustered 6 hits and 2 walks in the game. Angel Pagan and Daniel Murphy had 2 hits apiece but they didn’t score after they put up 1 run in the first inning. The offense is just sad.

The Mets and Pirates will do it again tomorrow for the third game in the four game series.

Pittsburgh Pirates (24-28) at New York Mets (25-28) 7:10pm

James McDonald (3-3 5.23) vs. R.A. Dickey (2-5 4.50)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The big news is that Dickey is making this start after leaving his last start with an injured foot. It will be worth keeping an eye on him playing the field and running that bases. Expect the Pirates to test him out with some early bunts.

McDonald had a rough start to the season for the Pirates. But he’s been pretty good since the end of April. The Pirates are 4-6 in his starts this season and they’ve won four of the last six games he started.

The Cubs took the series with a win today in Chicago as the Mets head home to face the Phillies this weekend. The story of this game is that R.A. Dickey was injured in the third inning running over to cover first base. He collapsed and was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury.

Pedro Beato and Pat Misch followed Dickey and both got smoked by the Cubs for a combined 7 runs in 2.1 innings and the game was over.

On offense, Daniel Murphy finally heated up on a chilly day going 3 for 4 and raising his season average to .261.

New York Mets (23-25) at Chicago Cubs (21-26) 2:20pm

R.A. Dickey (2-5 4.71) vs. Carlos Zambrano (4-2 4.88)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Cubs play the rubber game of the series before the Mets head home to face the Phillies. Dickey’s last start at Yankee Stadium was very good and got him his first win since his season debut. But he hasn’t been consistent this year at all. So there’s no telling what to expect today in Chicago.

The Cubs are 7-3 this season in games that Zambrano started. He hasn’t been very consistent either this season. He is sporting his lowest WHIP in three years though in an attempt to be come back from a couple of miserable years.
