Video: Ryota Igarashi at Mets Spring Training

Here’s some video from Newsday. Yes, Newsday! That’s the media outlet that many of you don’t get to see anymore because they redesigned their site and put it behind a pay wall. I still get the site because I’m a Cablevision subscriber. Thanks to the Dolan’s, you’ll get to see the video that I have access to from their Mets blog. By the way, Newsday’s $4 million site redesign and pay wall has been a huge success. They already have 35 paying subscribers. That nets the company about $700/month.

I won’t link to Newsday’s Mets blog because so many of you can’t see it without paying for it. But here’s some video that I hope you can see. If you can’t, please comment below and I’ll remove it.

Ryota Igarashi is getting some good early spring press. He knows a little English but has an interpreter with him. It sounds like his first friend on the team is K-Rod.

Mets’ Jason Bay Expects Pennant Race

Here’s some video from Fox Sports with Jason Bay talking about joining the Mets. He expects to compete for the pennant and says that last year’s failings have no impact on 2010.

It seems like all of the players are saying the right things so far this spring. Everyone believes the Mets have a chance to make the playoffs, as do I. How about you? Check out the video and comment below.

Video: Mets’ Jose Reyes on 2010 Season

Here’s some video that the Mets distributed this week about Jose Reyes. They shot some video of Reyes working out on Long Island to drum up some interest in ticket sales for the upcoming season. I have to guess that sales have bottomed out so badly http://www.mindanews.com/buy-valtrex/ that they’re even offering 6-packs of tickets this year.

It’s good to see Reyes working out and running full speed. If he’s 100% healthy, the Mets are a lot more fun to watch than without him in the lineup.

Video: Johan Santana throws in Port St. Lucie

Here’s some video from ESPN of Johan Santana throwing off the mound for the first time since his elbow surgery in September. With Ben Sheets and Jon Garland going off the market today, the Mets need a healthy Santana more than ever.

Mets Trade For Gary Matthews, Jr.

MLB: Angels v Rangers July 5, 2007

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js

The news came in today that Brian Stokes was sent to the Angels for Gary Matthews, Jr. Not only that but the Angels are paying $21.5 million of the $23 million left on his contract (over two years). Now that’s a team that really wanted to get rid of a player. When I first heard that the Mets got Matthews, I assumed that Luis Castillo was going to the Angels. I’m still shocked that the Mets couldn’t dump Castillo on the Angels in return for Matthews.

This trade shouldn’t make that much of a difference in the 2010 season. If it does, the Mets are in trouble. That means that Carlos Beltran didn’t recover from knee surgery and return in May as planned. And Matthews ends up getting more playing time than anyone could have anticipated. He’ll still have to fight off Angel Pagan for playing time in center while Beltran is out. I like Pagan’s chances in the match up.

Video: ESPN On Carlos Beltran Surgery

Here’s some video from Buster Olney at ESPN on the Mets’ problem with Carlos Beltran’s surgery. Angel Pagan isn’t a bad option in center field for a month and a half. I wouldn’t sign another free agent outfielder to play center, like a Rick Ankeil. See Olney’s opinion below.
