http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets put up one run in the top of the first inning on a David Wright RBI single and they never looked back. The Orioles are just a terrible team and it’s a good time to beat up on a team during a road trip. R.A. Dickey was very solid again. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop with him and it isn’t happening. Tonight he went 7 IP allowing 1 run and had a career high 8 strikeouts. The knuckler was moving. Rod Barajas had 2 passed balls and Dickey had a wild pitch that allowed the O’s to score their only run.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 1 walk. The big blast was a Chris Carter 3-run homer to right field in the fourth inning. Those are so rare for the Mets that it’s a shock when they get one. Wright was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s as well.

It’s a good way to start a three game series in Baltimore.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets came out on top of this one in 11 innings on a solo shot way out into the Pepsi porch by Ike Davis. That was a jump out of your seat moment but Mike Pelfrey was outstanding again through 9 innings. He only gave up 5 hits, 1 run, and no walks, with 6 strikeouts. It’s a shame that it went to extras and he didn’t get the win or complete game.

Other than Davis’ big blast to win it, the Mets as a team had 9 hits and 1 walk. David Wright was 2 for 4 with a double and is up to a respectable .283 avg. now. Angel Pagan was 2 for 5 with a triple and a stolen base. He continues to make plays every single day. And Jose Reyes was 2 for 4 with a big home run to left field to tie it in the seventh. The home run barely made it out and was reviewed. It was initially called a in play but after review it was ruled a home run.

These kind of games are my favorites to watch. I love the pitching duels. Great way to start the home series against the Pads.

The 2010 Homegrown New York Mets

Apr. 27, 2010 - Flushing, NY, USA - April 25, 2010: New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, left, has a laugh with rookie teammate Ike Davis before a rain-filled Major League Baseball game vs. visiting Atlanta Braves at Citi Field in Flushing, NY.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsSince the 2010 season started, Mets fans have had a soft spot for many of the players on the New York Mets. I have always wondered why the fans have embraced this team so much. Right now the Mets are three games behind the Atlanta Braves for the National League East.

With those numbers many of the fans wouldn’t embrace the team as much as they do. Yet, this team fights. This team cares. Finally it seems like the Mets players care about their fans.

I wondered why, so I did some research and found out that this team is one of the most homegrown teams the Mets have had in a long time.

Take Saturday afternoon for example. The New York Mets starting four in the infield were all homegrown. Ike Davis at first, Rueben Tejada at second, Jose Reyes at shortstop and David Wright at third are all homegrown. All drafted and played through the minors with the Mets. Even pitcher John Niese was homegrown.

That might not seem like that big of a deal. Yet, the last time that had happened was on September 20,1996 when the Mets had Butch Huskey at first, Tim Bogar at second, Rey Ordonez at short and Edgardo Alfonzo at third. The infamous Paul Wilson pitched that day as well. He was homegrown too. Continue reading “The 2010 Homegrown New York Mets”

Mets 7 – Marlins 6 June 6, 2010

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets finished off the sweep of the Marlins to pay them back for last month’s sweep in Miami. The good thing to see was the Mets coming back from down 5-0 in the sixth inning after another awful start from Hisanori Takahashi. He’s looking more and more like a long man coming out of the bullpen to start the more we see of him. He gave up two big bombs to Dan Uggla and Cody Ross and that was it for him.

The Mets comeback was brought on by something unusual for this team, late inning offense. They put up 12 hits and 6 walks but didn’t score a run before the sixth inning. David Wright was 3 for 5, Angel Pagan was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 1 SB, and the hot Jeff Francoeur 2 for 4 with a huge 3-run homer to tie it in the seventh.

It’s good to finally see a comeback win. We haven’t seen a lot of those over the last couple of seasons.

New York Mets Ike Davis hits a single at Citi Field in New York

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsMets starter Jon Niese was outstanding today in his return from two weeks on the disabled list with a hamstring strain. He went 7 innings only giving up 1 run in the seventh. He was in complete control throughout the game dropping his curveball in for strikes at will. Jenrry Mejia and Fernando Nieve finished off the final two innings without a serious threat by the Marlins.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 2 walks against the Marlins. Ike Davis was right on the ball today going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. David Wright was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s including his 10th home run of the season which equals his total from last season.

New York Mets Wright beats tag at second by San Diego Padres Eckstein for third inning stolen base in San Diego

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsThe story of this game was the continuation of Mike Pelfrey’s fantastic season. He went 8 strong innings only giving up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks. He was in complete control. Francisco Rodriguez took over in the ninth and things went a little crazy but he got out of trouble. Rodriguez gave up 3 hits and 1 run but managed to work out of a jam.

The offense was led by David Wright going 3 for 4 with a solo homer. And Ike Davis was 2 for 4 with a 2-run homer. Overall, the Mets had 10 hits and 4 walks making a nice recovery from last night’s disaster.

Mets 2010 Team MVP- First 50 Games

New York Mets Angel Pagan hits a home run in the eighth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field in New York

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsThe New York Metropolitans 2010 season is now 50 games old and they have a 25-25 record alongside their name in the standings.

Some Met fans have been disappointed. A .500 record in 50 games just isn’t going to beat the Philadelphia Phillies.

Some Met fans are optimistic. The team has had their struggles and they have some chinks in their armor. Oliver Perez, Mike Jacobs, Gary Matthews Jr, and Jeff Francouer haven’t really turned out like they were supposed to. Injuries to John Maine, Jon Niese, Ryota Igarashi and Carlos Beltran have hurt the Mets this season.

So when looking for a team MVP this season it was really tough to find on. Offensively, the Mets have been struggling. David Wright and Jose Reyes struggled for the first 50 games, although it appears Reyes is climbing out of a slump. Jeff Francouer has struggled as well. Luis Castillo has been banged up and Ike Davis has only played in 36 of those 50 games. Jason Bay got off to a rough start and made a bid for MVP but fell short. Johan Santana has been outstanding, along with Mike Pelfrey but they only play once a week. The bullpen has been good, but again they don’t pitch every day. So I came to a surprising conclusion.
